here we have 5 channels on free tv, tv ciudad is the only one exclusively digital, some people believe you can only get it on cable because of this, but if you have a digital tuner, it will pick it up, 4, 10 and 12 (their most common names) have both an analog and digital version, the digital one being reffered to as HD, 5 is only available as analog, if i remember correctly, both 5 and tv ciudad are government owned, but have different programming, whereas 4, 10 and 12 are privately owned and share the same programming between both analog and digital

No.The "national" Broadcaster ORF has "cutted" all off because of the Fees.
They maybe thinked,it is the only possible Way to force the People to pay...

So if you want to watch ORF and their "Partner" Channels you need a SAT-Receiver + ORF Card = around 25 Euros per Month.

By the Way,you have to pay the Fee in any Way,since you have a TV Set....no matter if you have SAT + ORF Card or not.

No and in fact that leaves a significant legal ambiguity: you must pay TV taxes if "you own at least 1 product capable of receiving TV transmissions", and nobody really agrees whether a tuner for the TV band, despite being incapable of actually receiving and demodulating what is now available on those frequencies, counts

Of course on the models I have, the tuner can be removed directly without negative side effects :D
