i've heard it was difficult if you use quicksolder... but i'm still a noob, so if i use wires, all i have to do is solder them to the quicksolder points, and then to the points on the PCB where the quicksolder would be?

Wire or quicksolder, does it really matter? You can always desolder and remove it all, wire or quicksolder.
You ever removed something that's been "quicksoldered"? It's a pain in the arse.
The solder flows under the joint making it difficult to either suck up or draw away. The multiple solder points holding down the chip mean you cannot just pull up the chip while the solder is hot. unless you have 5 soldering irons going at once or something

So what type of wires would be best? Somebody on the forums said they used Phone wire and I guess it worked for him. I just want to be sure I use the right kind of wire for the chip.

i'm guessing any type should work, i bet there is a better current when using cleaner metals. but conductivity is conductivity....

Wires are pretty much required for Wiikey.

Due to its thickness, quicksoldering 4 of the pads would be much, much harder than wires.
Seriously, look at this crap:

That had to be tough!

If you're a pro, you can quicksolder a wiikey, but if you don't know what you're doing, better go with wires.

30AWG is the wire to use. Radioshack has it:

i would highly recommend NOT quick soldering the wiikey.. the design of the PCB is a bad fit / borderline bad design.. if you try and line it up you'll see what i mean..

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
but why choose it over ysmenu @Psionic Roshambo?

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
