PS1/2 Does the dualshock 1 have pressure sensitive buttons or am I just dumb?

I have been recently playing okami on my ps2 with a dualshock 1 because that's the only controller I have that works on my ps2. My ps2 was a hand me down and it didn't come with a ds2. When the game told me to press harder on the buttons to jump higher it actually worked. I originally thought the ds1 diddn't have any pressure sensitivity but I guess mine has? Is this normal or am I just dumb and I didn't do research propely?

According to Wikipedia/IGN the DS2 introduced analogue buttons, it may be the game is just looking at the length of the button press to determine the height.
