Gaming does spotpass still work on nintendo letter box/swapnote in japan?

I recently pirated a crap ton of japanese themes and I was suprised to find that there was a couple of nintendo letter box/swapnote themes. Does spotpass still work in japan? Or is nintendo just plain ignorant of the fact that nobody uses swapnote since they killed spotpass?

Japan is the reason there is no swapnote anymore.

Yeah, it was taken down all the world over (and, way before the scandal, it was blacklisted from NZone streetpass because it only works with friends anyway).

But in Japan, Nikki is still a popular character with appearances in many later games, in fact we got her badges internationally!


And by the way, a friend and I still use it over streetpass, I want to 100% it (get to 300 messages) without cheating (creating posts with only a dot or so) and it's superior to Flipnote for actually noting down stuff with a date marking!
