Hi there, I'm new on GBATemp, and I would like to ask if Sony even still gives a flying **** about the PS4, I mean they stopped producing it already I think, no more new games are being released for it and no more system updates are coming out. The Xbox One is having issues updating right now to newer dashboards and the Xbox 360 is having issues even connecting to ******* Xbox Live. And it looks like the same is going to happen to the PS4 too. The modding community already has opened the PS4 up to countless vulnerabilities of the system software, allowing us to install Linux and stuff like that on the PS4. The hardware is also 10 years old, making it a half-outdated console in my opinion. The same also goes for the Xbox One. They're still producing the PS4 and PS4 Pro in western markets, but why? The PS5 exists and you can get PS4s for cheap on eBay or Facebook Marketplace. I'm confused.

Well, the PS2 was and is the best-selling console of all time with 100-something million consoles sold, it was produced until 2013 and its last game that was released is PES 2014, the last remaining official Sony repair services for it ended in 2018 for the PS2. The PS2 was a different case than the PS4.

I would imagine Sony could still sell some PS4's as a cheaper alternative. The real focus is always going to be on the new console. Whatever the reasonable expectation is, it all comes down to the money. For example, if a game doesn't sell well, no company's going to pay to maintain the expensive servers.

Legacy support is always going to be an uphill battle because it'll eventually fall on the fan/preservation community.

And they released a new firmware not long ago (as if 11.50 wasn't high enough already).

I personally have a Pro with 9.00 and generally play older games than newer ones so don't care too much what Sony does.
