90% of firmware updates don't offer much new besides security updates. Needless to say, newer firmwares don't matter for anybody except for those who update without thinking.

The PSP pretty much never tries to make you update unless you put in a UMD with a later update that can detect that you aren't on a high enough firmware. Even then, you don't have to install it.

So what if there's a new firmware? You can still run homebrew on unmodded PSPs by using the special encrypter and signing the homebrew.
