Hacking does imports work with wiikey clones?

a buddy of mine got his wii modded but he's not quite sure whether the wiikey he got was legit or a clone. but from the price he paid for the chip and install it makes me lean toward the clone side. ~30 dollars canadian for the install.

he asked me whether or not he will be able to play imports by enabling the region free option with the wiikey setup disc 1.2, but is not willing to try it himself...afraid he might brick his precious wii.

so on behalf of him, here is the question.

does wiikey clones run import backups, like jap games on a ntsc (usa) console from the experience you guys had?

He won't brick it, it's not possible to brink your Wii that way...

Yes Wiikey clones should run fine with the config disc and run backups region-free.
