Its only a guess, but hardware is hardware, if you bought an SATA or IDE DVD-ROM for a PC in the states or UK and installed it either a UK or US PC it will still work.

Its only power supplies and video you have to be concerned about.

I switched a First run PAL uk wii DVD drive for a later PAL uk DVD drive and it worked fine.

The drives themselves had different serial sicker nuber or whatever they are but they worked fine.

Im sure an NTSC will work in a PAL but the only way to be 100% is just to try it. Might run into problems with voltage but you might not.

Thinking about it some more, there might be a problem.

PC DVD drives have a chip on board that associate themselves with DVD regions. Now obviously the Wii currently doesn't allow DVD playback but the chip inside may read the Wii discs looking for region information such as Wii USA NTSC or Wii UK PAL.

If that's the case, then it possibly wont work....that's to say that regional coding may prevent it from reading USA Wii discs.

Someone that's into hacking the Wii and mod chips etc. may have a better idea.

...of course a Wii mod chip maybe the answer full stop.
