i found my dsi in my drawer that i havent used for a few years and wondered who still plays games with it. having transitioned over to the new 3ds, i dont think i'll ever play with the dsi (although there were very good games released on the system).

I just bought one a couple of weeks ago. I got a N3DSXL and loved the big screens. I wanted to get a DSi XL for the same big screens.

I have an EZ Flash Vi. I decided it would be easier just to buy a DSi XL (which are everywhere to be found here in Tokyo for 40 bucks in basically mint condition) than it would be to get a flashcard that's compatible with the 3DS and that could be blocked at some point.

I love it! As much as I like my 3DS, the DS just has a much much much bigger library of quality games. Arguably it's the biggest library of quality games on any console.

I generally avoid "upgrade" models. Mostly because I have the first one (in that case the original DS) and it still plays most of the games that come out for it, and the few games that require the upgraded model (DSi in this case) will work fine on the next generation handheld thanks to backwards compatibility.

I'm still playing with my original 3DS. There may be a small handful of games for the N3DS, and the newer model may give better performance, but it's not worth the $100+ for a minor upgrade for me. Any exclusives to the N3DS that I want to play, I'm fine waiting until the next generation to play via backwards compatibility.

Not saying they're bad handhelds. If I didn't already have a DS, I would have gone for a DSi, and if I didn't have a 3DS, I would have gone for a N3DS. I completely understand people that do enjoy the new models, just not worth the money to me. I'm patient enough to wait a couple of years for a couple of games.

and do you preefer original GB to a gba with light?

i did get the 3ds because pokemon, but playing ds and dsi games and can use it for multiplayer with my ds lite... (sometimes when i have a cousin or something i let them play with me)

    topic:

I actually stubbornly stuck to the original GBA, at least until the micro. I loved the micro. I did avoid the DS Lite, though I eventually ended up with one because a friend didn't want it. I'm just a bit of a penny pincher. The only way I'd go for a N3DS at this point is if I could get it for less than a $60. I'd be fine trading in my old 3DS for one at that price. As it is. I'm fine with my 3DS, though I did decide to get a CPP recently.

I still play my micro and pull out my DS when I need to move save files around or dump a cartridge.

I turned on one of my DSi units for the first time in months this morning to help a friend figure out how to do something.

My DSiXL occasionally gets use with moonshell, but that's rare.

I never got a Dsi. I tend to kinda get the original one, and then watch as nintendo unfolds the new ones. If I like what I see, I get the new one. If not (which is generally the case) I keep my old one.

In terms of the Ds, I got the old electric blue and really liked the screens on the light. So I bumped up. When the DSi came around, I didnt much like the loss of the GBA slot. Mostly because I tend to like backwards compatibility and thank nintendo each generation for leaving at least one gen backwards available to me. Step it up, sony. Anyways, the Dsi wasnt something I was ready to leave my GBA slot for. Then, when things jumped to the XL dealio, I was even more turned off. But to each his own.

So yeah, uh about the question in the OP. Not much, but I do have plans to mod out a DS lite to its full potential. Currently it houses my DSTwo, my pride and joy of a flashcart. I want to give it white exterior shells and clear on the inside, like opening up the "guts" inside the clamshell. I will drill out the speakers to make it a touch louder, even though the DS should be used with headphones. I want to try to create a circle pad of some kind too. But the best addition I want to add is a GBAccelorator chip to overclock the processor with key button presses.

I would like to kinda get my ds all filled to the brim with DS games I missed last gen, as well as GB and GBC games I would liek to play and any old emulators, just so if im heading somewhere and need something to play, I can grab my modded DS. So i dont right now, but I see myself using it in the future.

I still use my dsi for DS games, and my 3ds for 3ds games.

I know. If you read my post, i said I have an EZ Flash Vi, which doesn't work on a 3DS. So my choices were either to get a new flashcart, which may or may not be blocked in the future, the safest bet being DSTWO, costing 40 bucks, or a mint condition DSi XL this is and will always be compatible with the EZ Flash Vi, also for 40 bucks.

It seems like you just read the last line of my posting and are criticizing it out of context.

No, I re-read your entire post again and it still seems like you are generalizing that the DSi has a "much much much" bigger selection of great games. You were explicitly comparing the 3ds to ds, not your unique situation. Maybe that's not what you meant, but that's how it reads.

Anyway, I agree the DSiXL is no slouch. I do like it's lighter weight, better battery, and crisper screen in relation to the 3ds. I just don't think gaining those benefits is a fair trade-off for all the 3ds offers (in my opinion).

I play them on my 3DS XL, or did before I fried it. I only wish that I could stretch the screen out when playing them.
