Do you find GBAtemp is a crusader platform?

The politics section has people constantly crusading over vaccines and there's a stickied thread about Russian propaganda spammers. Certain members post LGBT content consistently and there is a group about it. This is a gaming website so I think sensitive topics which inevitably lead to members having digital crusades should be prohibited. They detract from the purpose of the website. Crusaders should stick to Twitter and Reddit.

Well, they are in their own sections, though. You don't have to visit them if you have no interest in the topic. Variety is the spice of life. I have nothing against anything.

If you don't like the topics, don't visit the sections where they live.

In fact, everyone should do that, so with luck it dies down from no activity and eventually all of will be forgotten history, ultimately from being deleted.

This topic comes up regularly and is shouted down each time. While I agree that controversial topics are at least questionable on a gaming site, this would as well bring up the question why a general off-topic forum exists. After all people aren't (hopefully) not limited to a single topic, gaming, in their life. It would be a shame if arbitrary topics couldn't be discussed in the GBAtemp community.

I didn't find the settings after the upgrade (but it seems my personal settings have been carried over) – removing the politics forum from the "Recent Content" box was a relief. I somewhat agree with "At least all such topics are in one place and don't cluster up the general off-topic forum."


Having all that said, if people stayed civil/decent/respectful dealing with controversial topics, it could even be nice to have intense discussions sometimes. With all the intolerant, rude dogmatists (in all sorts of directions) this is illusory.

I find that some people always want to spoil the main focus of websites and turn everything into a political mess.
Just look at Twitter; I joined in 2010 and it wasn't always as bad as it's now, but around 2012 everyone wanted to share their political opinions about hipster shit and pseudo-important subjects, and it became something different. Now Twitter just works for political attacks to whatever point of view gets the spotlight, porn and hentai, and recently NFT promotion.

Let's just avoid GBAtemp to turn into a political mess. As you say, this is a gaming and scene website of every console in existence. People who come to share their political opinions are just in the wrong place.

I think i only visited it once ever since i've been here, as i don't care much about politics in general ( i consider it a big waste of time, for me). If it's stays withing reason, fine, though i agree that if it starts to get out of hand, it should be eliminated quickly.

In general I ignore topics about politics, religion, sexuality and covid on online forums.

We are all people that are here because we enjoy gaming and modding our devices to get more out of them, i'd sooner stick to that as people are never going to agree on politics & religion in particular.

Other off topic / general discussion is fine, however certain people here clearly have an unhealthy agenda which would be better served elsewhere.

I like GBATemp as it is....open minded,diversity friendly and open to all subjects.

Everyone can read what he/she/it wants and don't read what he/she/it wants.

So....none is pushed or treated to read something.

At first I thought it was great that other topics were allowed. Then I saw for myself they aren't used as forums to discuss, they're used as platforms to bully and shame people who don't agree with a certain POV. Some of the comments I've seen are fucking disgusting. So, I swerve them now.

I think the politics section itself is alright. The section becomes a warzone when there are pages and pages of cringy replies and multiple threads about a single topic like with the coronavirus vaccine (I know I made some of them). Topics should be banned when this happens.

A gaming website can have off-topic discussions which includes politics but these discussions should not become crusades.

Sadly most people have "ON/OFF" or "WITH ME or AGAINST ME" attitude today. You can't discuss something rationally anymore.

I agree with most of the Posts here. I think its a Problem of the Time. Everyone thinks they know the Truth and everyone thinks they know best. Also they always think there is only right or wrong. Its kind of a virus that spreads through all levels. From the typical SJW to Antivaxxers and dont even start about Politics. Also i think one of the reasons for this is not that there are principially more of those Hardliner People, but just more ways for them to make their opinion known. They are not more just louder. It really annoys me nowadays. At least as long as they stay in their own threads or Something like that it wont bother me. Sadly thats seldom the case.

Thankfully the Mods here do their best to keep non Political threads free of that nonsense. So to the Topic, no GBAtemp is not a Crusader Platform. The Internet is.

Yeah I don't get why people come on here to cry about trump, vaccines, elections, wars or to constantly talk about and jabber on to people about how they plan to cut their dicks off. This is a gaming forum predominantly still in my eyes and I just do not get the need to discuss such thing to the point of toxicity and arguments here. Maybe I am just old fashioned and behind the times and this is how platforms like this evolve and stay relevant. People invest a lot on their online persona and are lazy so they want to go all in at any community they frequent. So not only do they feel the need to share their thoughts on gaming, but also on elections in countries they do not live in, plus their dick cutting plans,

If it's placed in the segment known to be divisive, it doesn't reflect the whole platform. All things you mentioned can to an extent be taken to heart, it's no surprise people take things personally (Not sure what the issue with "LGBT content consistently and there is a group about it," nor do I want to know). Video game forums doesn't automatically mean we don't talk about these topics, video games themselves are a product of the times, why not talk about the times?
