Straight donate? No. If I am somewhere without a bag, wallet or decent pockets I might chuck some change in the pot.
Would sponsor a friend if doing something for them, indeed most big races in this country will only allow people in if they are world class athletes or doing it for charity. That is more for my friend though than anything charity related.
Happily go to an event in aid of them (concerts, dinners, lectures) if it is otherwise of interest to me. Might even participate in an auction or raffle or something if there is something I want.
Other than them helping run the price of second hand furniture into the ground I am perfectly happy to buy things from their shops or stalls somewhere. They frequently have good stuff in around here as well -- a lot of interesting tools, electronics and books for me.
I don't care about charging most of the time anyway and similarly don't mind donating some time to helping them with something if they know enough to ask me.

I tend to avoid the hardcore religious ones and could see an ethical issue swerving me another time -- I was indifferent but some I knew now avoid the RSPCA (probably the biggest animal charity in the UK) because of their position on fox hunting. Most of the ultra religious ones have gone or toned it down though. I have no favoured charity or field of charities, don't have any preference or particular fondness for local, national or international.

Most charities only exist to fill the pockets of those who sit in the management. The allocation of donations is a bad joke.

I donate directly to people who are in need. Most of the time food or my old clothes. Sometimes, if I see some lonely homeless guy sitting somewhere, I buy him some food, sit there, smoke a cigarette with him and just talk for half an hour.
Way more sensible than throwing money out of the window by donating to the big 5.

charity is for people in needs?
I'm in needs, I don't give and should receive. I'm under the poverty mark of my country.
I'm not homeless or in enough needs to go to charity to get my clothes or food though.

If I'm donating, I'd prefer doing so to the person directly than giving to a profitable company.
the only giving to charity I did is clothes I don't wear, I don't know where it goes but I don't care, I would have put it in the trash anyway. that's very rare I though to trash wearable clothes, I still wear 15-20 years old clothes :/

    edit:
    I donated :
    a NDS flashcard to Smealum
some money to gbatemp after server hack
    some money to nintendont development.

I give to people whom are in true need. I don't give to beggars unless I am throwing a handful of pocket change into the street. If beggars want money then they need to work for it, not just sit on their lazy rears. But, if I were to see a bigger with a sign and doing all those sign twirls and tricks and stuff then I would happily give the person some bills because then they are at least exerting some energy to try for something. I have never given money to a charity, but I have donated to friends or done plenty of other things to help other people out.

Last year there was this girl that my daughter was friends with and her family was going through a very difficult time. We spent thousands of dollars getting this girl clothes, school supplies, signed up for cheer leading, a phone, and basically everything that she needed. We were driving her around to all her practices and taking her out to the fair and dinner. We did so much for this girl. She was pretty much living with us and we were recommended to try to get custody of her bc her mom wouldn't work and kept getting her electricity and gas shut off. After a few months of this and the girl being really impossible to get a "thank you" out of, we started getting a little rather bummed out. One night I sternly told her that she needs to show appreciation and she got really upset called up her mom crying. We still continued to help. It got to a breaking point that she would not respond to texts and make us wait a good 20 minutes when we would pick her up to bring her to practice, so I finally stopped paying for her phone service, which we had only gotten just so we could communicate with her. Her mom got all pissed off and threatened to call the police saying that I "hacked" the phone. The mother send me MANY lengthy texts accusing us of wrong doing. I cut all ties off with them at that point.

We literally are still climbing out of the financial hole that we had put ourselves into from trying to help this girl. It was all rather heart breaking because my 3 year old absolutely loved this girl.

A few months back, my buddy Eric was in a shitty financial situation. He had made a gofundme to help him get the funds to get a new place so his daughter wouldn't be without a roof over her head. I kept sharing it and no one donated. I finally donated, and then my wife donated, and then other people, some even from GBAtemp donated as well (thank you guys). We were having a birthday party and we decided to make the party also be a fund raiser for my friend. We cooked up a bunch of our home raised chickens and made plenty of great food and had an open invatation for anyone to come by and enjoy the food without a requirement of needing to donate but would be welcomed. No one that we did not already know came to the event, but plenty more people did donate online. That day we had collected probably $150 - $200 in cash in the donation jar. Sadly, around 100 people were saying that they were going to show up, but only about 25 people actually came and we ended up wasting an awful lot of food.

We certainly go out of our way a lot to help those truly in need, but I am not going to do a damn thing for a bum that is not willing to help himself. I have been homeless multiple times, and each time I crawled out of the whole on my own by getting a job. I slept under bushes and behind dumpsters, but I always got out of it on my own. No sympathy for people whom can not put in the effort to get themselves into a better place.

Far too many charities barely put any of the donated money to the end cause.

If you'd come across me a couple of years back, I'd thank you for keeping me company for a bit.
I can tell from experience that 99 out of 100 people don't even take a look at you.

Most of my charity has gone to musicians on the street, and sometimes to unfortunate kids shown on TV. Haven't really donated to an organization.

Despite the fact I could be doing with more money myself, I still donate a little every single month to Cancer Research, Marie Curie, the RNIB and the Stroke Association.

They’re deserving charities who do a lot of good for an awful lot of people. And they’re all ones whom I have experienced second-hand through family members over the years.

Oh, and of course while not a charity per say, our own beloved GBAtemp.

It really depends on the charity and I always do extreme research on them before they seen see a penny from me. I used to give to the Salvation Army, until I found out about their extreme anti-LGBT+ stance, so now I treat all charities with a heavy background check. I won't make that mistake again.

Red Cross actually really pulled through for me during the flood. They helped immensely, which kinda changed my opinion on major charities. I still think a majority of them are there as embezzlement or funding schemes, but there are some out there that are legit, and help people in need.

Otherwise, from experience, I know donations directly help so much. I've given back to a few Gofundmes since my own incident, and I always think that's the best way. Go directly to the person in need, and help them that way. It means so much more that way to the person, too.

I have donated directly to a few persons who needed more than what I already had.
Hopefully they now are living better from my tiny contributions.

I ended up donating all of my fast-action insulin to the diabetes clinic near the hospital so they could give it to others. Not sure if that's actually what they do with it, but I had no need for that.

yes, I donate to orphans charity Hope Now Ministries on a daily basis. It's a Christian community that helps orphanages to meet basic needs. Cyrrently I try to donate at least $10-20 per month, that's not a big sum of money but it can help kids to survive. I'm not a religious but I think they do a great job.

I donate £10 for general humanitarian shenanigans, I also donate £10 to Shelter ( a homeless charity). There's also the buying a homeless person food when I'm out and about and stuff relating to the Charity my employer set up.

Indirectly so. A portion of donations to the game dev/modding group I'm a part of goes to charity (usually Direct Relief) every month. Other than that, I also make numerous purchases from Humble Bundle and other services that leave a cut go to charitable causes.

Most charities are not for profit, to be fair.
