Disney Classic Games Collection sees Aladdin and The Lion King get remastered versions

Zd41nNi.png

Back in the 1990's, Disney had a solid track record of making video game adaptations of some of its most famous movies of the decade. Ones that Sega Genesis/Super Nintendo fans are sure to remember are The Lion King and Disney's Aladdin, released in 1993 and 1994 respectively. Now, a whole new world generation can get to experience those beloved titles, as both will be fully remastered in 1080p in the upcoming Disney Classic Games Collection. This dual pack will see both the SNES and Genesis versions of each game, including their original soundtracks, with the ability to fast-forward and rewind--which may help with The Lion King's notorious difficulty. The Disney Classic Games Collection will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow, and will release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One later this fall.

"Not that difficult". Really? Stop trying to be "that cool person who is backhandedly saying he's better than others". They were objectively very very difficult. Cut that out.
Capcom's Aladdin is very easy though... due to the cloth that you can use midair to glide (hold R), only way to get some challenge out of it nowadays is to not use the glide, even then it's not too hard, you have to remember that when we were kids we didn't have the same amount of games as now, we played the crap out of those titles and got good at them, so they never stood out as too hard when I was 8-9. But as far as retro games go they're far from "very very" difficult, just difficult.
With Lion King, one of them was easier (pretty sure SNES) due to somewhat longer jumps...

Now throw a fps at me and I'll never complete it in a million years, or get good at smash bros or street fighter, we all have different things we consider difficult, maybe platforming isn't your strongest suit.

Have you tried sucking less
Usually helps. People who immediately jump to "waah make it easier for me" are why the game is too hard haha. Of course it is if you never try to improve.

Wut ? I beat both games when i was like 8-9, after many attemps yes, but not that difficult
My case, too.

It wasn't. Some practice and you were perfectly able to finish them in a weekend, at most. You need more Battletoads in your life to stay objective.

If it's anything like DuckTales Remastered, I'll take it!
I really hope that's the case, and not just the usual boring "HD filter".

Both games were pretty easy. Even more so on the console versions of the games. Try playing them on PC using only a keyboard to control instead of a fancy swanky controller (Done and DONE). PC versions of both games p**s on the console versions in every way graphics and sound. Bought my first soundblaster card just for sound on Aladdin.

The developers specifically made the game harder than intended because they didn’t want it being able to be completed “within a rental period”. Even searching “lion king difficulty” results in a huge swath of people crying about how hard the game was. I never played Lion King myself, I just had Aladdin, but the game seems to be remembered by many for being quite punishing.

Lion King was harder than Aladdin. But Aladdin was by far the better game. Lion King young Simba levels were boring to the extent that if you didn't know the big Simba levels were what made the game good you'd give up on the gorge level :). Haha brings back memories.

These games are infamous for their difficulty, but looking past that, the bigger issue is that I simply don't find them enjoyable or high-quality compared to other games from the same era. More power to anyone that does I guess, but this collection is gonna be a pass for me.

Lion King's game is really difficult to play for a child... (sad memories).

Aladdin on the other hand, one of the best platforming games I've played for SNES, I still have my SNES cartridge around.

But they call these "remastered" versions... will they have "new" graphics or we will just get upscaled ones?

It will probably be like ducktales and wouldn't also be surprised if they add checkpoints/savestates to make it easier for all of us.

As long as they're digging through the back catalog, it would be neat to see Maui Mallard (with the redbook Michael Giacchino score) again.

Okay that is pretty cool, unlike the garbage versions GOG got of these games.
What's so bad about them? Keyboard controls?

Still a shame that the Disney Afternoon Collection is still not considered for the Switch but I guess they're waiting until the time is right to release it at full price again.
It's surprising to see this on the Switch. I kind of figured that the Disney Afternoon Collection got snubbed because the fancy features made the Virtual Console look shabby in comparison.

I don't try to brag herd, but I just think that nolimits has a point. We might need a few more views in order to tell if it really was (or, if it actually was, still is) objectively difficult.
The original developers have gone on the record as apologizing for making The Lion King needlessly difficult, mostly because they needed to do something to combat losses from Blockbuster rentals. That is, the only way to stop someone from renting your game, playing it completely, and then never buying it is to have some part near the beginning require a certain degree of mastery. Fast forward to 18:30 on this video:

No, they used the DOS ports on GOG, and looked like garbage, not to mention the audio was bad.

This^ to all the immature kiddos who are trying to be edgy in an attempt to boost their own egos. The games are hard. Theyre not "easy"... smh.
