The main benefits i can see from this happening if it ever did is no more installing games and having to wait for them to finish installing so drag and drop to play the games and you won't have to deal with the 300 app install limit anymore since that has not been cracked yet if possible.

I am not against this happening. Like I've said a million times, I love homebrews, I don't care if it's for piracy, games, emulation, cfw's ect. I love seeing homebrews being made.
The issue here, is just trying to convince someone to make this. Sadly, there are just three problems preventing anyone from wanting to make this;
1. CIA's are a lot smaller than 3DS (examples: Monster Hunter 4 CIA: 2.54gb compared to Monster Hunter 4 .3DS: 4GB.)
2. CIA's install directly to the homescreen, no secondary launcher required.
3. CIA's can go online without a private header.

Now of course, two of these can be solved pretty easily, 3DS roms can be trimmed like DS roms, removing the bulk filler data.
Just creating a Forwarder could easily solve the lack of homescreen icon.
It's just the issue of no online play without a header that's really what kills it for me.

Still, this is just speculation and would still require someone who actually knows what they are doing to be interested in making this project. Honestly, I will support anyone who does because I love homebrews.

I would like to add an extra note, a loader like this could make using cheats, RTS, ect. much easier.

For number 3 you could dump a random game using gateway 3ds software and rip the private header from it to use with games than you will be set.

I'm tired of hearing the "CIAs take too long to install" excuse. I can simply download and install a CIA with CIAngel in a matter of minutes; I don't know what you guys use. Perhaps an outdated build of FBI?

Download Hyrule Warriors, it takes forever and a half.

So a rom loader like gateway? If you already have CFW why not just install the CIA at that point? It's going to take up the same amount of space
Actually, .3ds files take more space because they are padded to the nearest multiplier of 256.

EDIT: Not to mention, you won't be able to play online with .3ds files since they have actual private headers and if you get caught using the same header as someone else, you'll get your sorry ass banned by Nintendo.

In short, not only is it too much work for little return as others said, it's also simply a worse thing to do in comparison to CIA files for reasons I mentioned above.

Its not an excuse. You're just lacking in knowledge.

Assume the game being installed is Bravely Default which is around 3200mb.

Installing with freeshop at max speed of 1.7mb/s means it takes 30 minutes.
Installing with CIAngel at max speed at 1.3mb/s means it takes 41 minutes

Now, if you were to source the .3ds version from god knows where, it will be a 4000mb download

Downloading it at speeds of shall we say, 10mb/s (because most people have fast internet now anyway), it takes 6.7 minutes
Transferring it to the SD card directly at 10mb/s (only few cards have 20mb+/s transfer speeds but I have one so..), it takes another 6.7 minutes.
Total download to play time is just 13.4 minutes (which can vary depending on card and internet speed)

So, CIA installing from CDN takes 30-41 minutes while 3ds transfers are just about 13 minutes.

Excuse? Hardly.

Eh. I just use .3ds to playtest a game, If I am not too sure about it. I then convert it to a .CIA and let it install overnight or while I am doing something else. But I see how some people love their .3ds roms. I guess. Sort of.

Hyrule Warriors is at 22% right now, and I started 8 minutes ago. Anyway, I've never had any problem with long installations. Perhaps I'm more patient, or simply don't care enough about something so trivial as installing a game. I don't know. But the point is, it's a weak excuse, as CIAs (in my opinion) are the best way to play commercial games if you don't intend to buy them; and if you're not patient enough to pirate a game, maybe you don't deserve to play the game?

cia installs REALLY aren't that bad. Most cia files are about 600 megs, and very few games are over that (smash 4, mh4, bravely default, and hyrule warriors). The most I have ever spent installing a cia is 45 minutes. Its only once, and you have it forever;)

I didn't know that until right now.
So now we just need someone to be interested in making a backup loader.
Ok, you can, but!

- Everybody has to dump his own private header
- You need to inject the Cart-ID into your game (use Gateway Rom Patcher)
- You need to fix the Chip-ID (use Gateway Rom Patcher)

By the time you did all that, your cia is installed!

Yeah, but that's only if you are interested in playing games online. I could easily leave all of my .3DS games as offline games only.
Regardless, there's still no real reason a project like this shouldn't exist. The only reason someone hasn't made loader, is because CIA's exist and no one has shown interested in making one.
