this would be useless in userland because of us nly being able to load illegal cia files and it's too time consuming. You're better off using it via ciangel or freeshop. Loading off SD would be a pain as well scrolling through the files when it can be on your home menu

Tl;dr : Go back to the Wii/Wii u scene

The idea being is you an download at 20+mb/s and then transfer it to your SD card physically at 20+mb/s (if you have a fast card). This is why its convenient. CIA are bottlenecked to <1.6mb/s on a N3ds

This is bullshit. SD transfer rates depend on the card and the application installing it.

Not to mention, if you're going with the 'number of copies' argument - you're downloading your ROMs inefficiently. Why not optimize more by just downloading directly to the SD card?

What? Can you not read? I said if you have a fast card. You're bullshit. I have a card with write speeds of 22mb/s. I'm just saying, there's no upper limit to copying via SD card whereas CIA installs direct on the 3ds are capped at 1.6mb/s and that's for a n3ds.

CFW + Sky3DS = best of both worlds.

How much simpler do you want it? Like, you can already play any game you want, install any program you want and make your home screen look like anything you want.

You can get games without using your computer, you can hack the games to play how you want... And you're upset that there's an icon on your home screen?

I know you're trying to pass this off as curiosity but the fact is no one else seems to want what you want, so it won't be made. That's really all there is to it.

Why don't we just all shut up and first focus on the flaws of our current exploits and related instead of thinking about completely new things?

I am quite tempted to get a sky3ds+ but its so darn expensive. Any idea if GW saves work on a sky3ds+?

I truthfully don't. I bought the blue button version a year ago and it's been great for me, but I only use it to store some games. I've got a 32gb card in there and a 32gb sd card in my 3DS. More than enough space for me.

Math time!

If your card is 22mb/s - it's UHS-3. Assuming you're downloading the game and then copying it - you're getting average speeds on 22MB/s at a period twice the size, so your total DL rate is 11MB/s.

Not to mention that 3DS files are cartridge dumps, so to convert a game legitimately, it requires decryption and re-encryption with the zero key which is overall a much slower process than downloading, measurably so. You'd either need a xorpad (which is the same size as the game) or Decrypt9 / Uncart. Uncart is slow, and so is Decrypt9, and then you'd have to re-encrypt with the zero key for Gateway - which means you're getting likely less than 1.5MB/s throughput.

In other words - it's only more convenient for you because you don't pay for your games. The second *that site* disappears from the net you'd be screwed in terms of speed vs CIA installs.

On more a helpful note...

Saves are encrypted differently with Gateway than Sky3ds. Sky3DS saves are the same as a retail game.

This is an old-ish guide, but it's relevant: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutoria...v-to-eshop-3ds-3dz-with-savedatafiler.380246/

Well, that explains a lot actually. But I highly doubt OP was asking about private backups but rather more of "public" backups.

In other words, GW is still required. That sucks. I've already replayed bravely default because my gateway save was at chapter 4 and I couldn't import it to CIA as I don't have a GW anymore. Luckily NTR cheats made it super easy to skip ahead to chapter 4. I'd bet this whole GW encrypted saves was premeditated to lock people into gateway.

There are no public backups. ;)

(I'm joking of course, but I dump all my games myself, which is why I know this stuff. Anyways...)

Gateway seems to have a thing for DRM in some ways more than nintendo. I wish I had better news for you on the save front.

On the upside, Sky3DS is much cleaner - it's more of a 'cartridge emulator' than a 'flashcart', and doesn't require exploits nor all these complicated crypto steps.

EDIT: I feel the need to point this out:

From arbitrary code, we can jump to more arbitrary code. Then, a CXI backup loader could be possible

Or maybe we jump from arbitrary code to arbitrary code to a toaster oven to a trampoline to an emulator and then run a 3DS backup? Seems legit.

To be serious, that's not how it works. Executing arbitrary code is fine and all, but this requires reversing card accesses and hooking them. This isn't about executing arbitrary code.

The closest thing to what you are thinking about is a flashcart. Usb loader gx works by emulating a disk, and I have doubts about the 3ds being able to emulate a cartridge, even a n3ds. Even if the 3ds could emulate a cartridge, there wouldn't be enough power to run the game. And if the game was playable, no dev would probably try to make this. Cia installers work fine, and its only a few minutes for most games to install :yay3ds:

Wait what

Well, big games (e.g. Pokémon, Bravely Default, Senran Kagura, DKCR3D) take between 1 and 3 hours to install. imo that's much more than "a few minutes" :P

Would be great this option because with this you could load hacked games. F.e., i was translating FE fates months ago, and I had to install/uninstall the cia every time I make a change, sometimes didn't load because of the way I made the cia (using makecia code, because it's the only way I could add Manual).
And would be great too because if you don't have enough space in your Sd card, you would load the 3ds/cia by a Loader(gx). (You need the double size of the cia).
I know you can delete games/make a backup of 3ds games from your Sd to Pc, but that takes time, especially when you don't have a SD loader, or the New 3ds connection is too slow (and sometimes "crash" in the middle of the process)

you never know, maybe shiny quasare will expand the games that work with salty sd to fix your rom hacking problem
