This is a sad story. KaKaRoTo has put in a lot of work and despite having little to no contributions, he would have liked to have given something more to the community. Sadly, this won’t happen. One low-life human being has leaked the jailbreak and KaKaRoTo is pissed – With good reason. I value KaKaRoTo but if he turns into Mathieulh, the scene will have to fend for themselves. As a developer, I am ashamed to be sharing a community with people that would leak someone’s hard efforts. I’m not calling everyone bad, just the leakers. If you know anyone who is supplying this leak, let me know or better yet, let KaKaRoTo know.

The tweet below describes the developer’s anger:

Note that this is the first time we’ve ever seen KaKaRoTo pissed off, he normally seems like a mute next to Mathieulh.

We’ll keep you posted.

This is pretty sad. The Wii scene has had people leak stuff before but this sure is not a good start for the PS3 scene.

And I just read that the PS3 is having an update to 4.0.
This is exactly the sort of thing that KaKaRoTo was worried about.
I remember him saying in his blog that Sony will patch the jailbreak even before he were to release it.
Question now is if Sony caught wind of this and whether the 4.0 update actually patches the jailbreak...

EDIT:

There's actually been an update from KaKaRoTo regarding the leak. Turns out, it wasn't a leak, but a misinterpretation.

Ok, so I dug and figured out what happened... GOOD NEWS! There was no leak! Although you never really know, but I'm more and more convinced that it wasn't a leak.
So first of all, thank you to all who gave their support and the twitter flood was extreme. I am really happy to see that many concerned users in the scene, with a very few exceptions, I noticed that most people were disgusted and unhappy with the leak, someone summed it up pretty nicely "While I should be happy that it's leaked, I'm not, I'm disgusted, I don't even want to use it now". So thank you, with your support, you have given me joy and the confidence that this scene has a lot more voices than the few angry haters.
That being said, here's an explanation of what happened.
Someone came to talk to me on IRC asking "Is this how you did ? " and he gave some explanation.. which was true. At that point, it could be either coincidence or a leak, but what made me believe in a leak is that he said something (which I can't really tell what it is) that was very unique and special and weird and you wouldn't expect it (even if you found the same 'exploit'), and that little detail was specific to my jailbreak. Unfortunately, the guy went offline before I could reply to him, so all I could see was that it was a leak.
After going around, only 6 people actually knew of the jailbreak's method, and I spoke to all of them and I trust them all and I'm sure none of them spoke about it with anyone. It turns out, the person who approached me asking "is this how you did : .... " had not received any information from anyone. When I finally caught him online and asked him where he got that information, I realized that it was simply someone who was clever enough to figure it out.
As for that one detail that was quite unique to my jailbreak, it turns out it was miscommunication.. the guy meant something completely different from what I understood, and yes, I guess I was just being paranoid and I interpreted it in one way. But when he explained what he meant by it, it made sense... now that I read his message again, I see exactly what he meant, but since I couldn't understand it first, the only way I could interpret it was to understand it as being that detail specific to my method. Life is hard when one word/sentence can be interpreted in multiple valid ways...
So anyways, that's how it is, it looks like nothing was leaked, so everyone's happy now. But this was a wake up call actually, it just reinforced that I should be even more cautious and avoid talking about it to anyone until it's ready.
On that note, progress was made even though I'm on vacation, and it's going well, I won't say anything else
Thank you,
KaKaRoTo

This isn’t “breaking” news or a “big-incoming leak“, just pointless scene drama that everyone is jumping the gun on and spreading misinformation. KaKaRoToKS claims the leak was “incomplete”, so whoever decided to leak it know that it pretty much ruined his work.

This is a pretty contained/internal leak, most of you won’t find it.

Also read the "Update" part, nothing has been leaked.

I haven't really followed PS3 hacking that much mainly since I didn't have a PS3. Now that I'll have a black friday 2011 ps3 slim bundle.

Well, what would be so bad about his jailbreak/hack being leaked? I assume the worst thing would be that sony find's out about it and releases OFW to disable the method, but isn't it standard to not update your systems if you want it hacked at all? I assume someone else might try and take credit for it. But 1. this is the internet 2. humans can be dicks 3. he's hacking the PS3 which people use to pirate games.

If it was leaked and he decided to quit. I would call that akin to a kid playing basketball with his friends, getting mad and taking his basketball home. That;s just my thoughts though.

That's not a proper comparison at all. That's about some people who are working together on something.

With this, it's him. It's his work.

But I still don't see why he would just quit if it was actually leaked. Sure it's his work but all he's doing is hacking a system, if he can't handle his work getting stolen and have it passed off as someone else's. Then hacking just isn't the field he should be in, he already has fans as it seems and they all got their panties into a bunch over something that actully didn't happen.

again, just my thoughts.

I think people have the right to be
if he can't handle his work getting stolen and have it passed off as someone else's
The entire existence of copyright law says hi. It's an entire title of US law (title 17, not sure what it is in other systems like in the UK) about how it's bad to take somebody else's work for your own without permission, so obviously it's considered an important factor in our society.

Piracy may seem to be contained in that and legally it is (though only via a few works), but there's a difference between taking a copy of something privately, and proclaiming it's your work.

You think the US Government would grant him copyright over something specifically and solely designed to hack a PS3? The last time I saw someone try that the person was named GeoHotz and Sony seemingly very nearly destroyed him. As I've said before i'm basiclly a total noob when it comes to the "PS3 scene" and other hacking scenes as well. Though, if I was him, I'd kind of be more worried about Sony breathing down my neck then if my code gets leaked.

also it's clear whatever was or in this case wasn't leaked was unfinished by his standards. I'd love to see him finish his work since I look forward to making full use of my PS3.

I didn't mention it being copyrighted, I brought up the fact that there's an entire title of US law dedicated to the concept of intellectual copyright in order to show that it's considered important in our society, so it's not like it's out of hand that somebody would get mad if they think their work is stolen.

Yeah I totally agree with you, and if I was in his position I would be upset over a leak of my own work. but at the same time i wouldn't act surprised that it happened. I got my PS3 black friday bundle in today from amazon, but sony got me to update to 4.00 since I couldn't log into PSN store otherwise. I bought 2 years of PS+ from target during that ad misprint.

I'll just hack my PS3 when its "dead".
