Well, I wouldn't say that. It would depend on the store, there may be sales on at particular stores during Christmas (or soon after). In fact, I'd probably count on it. You just have to know where to look.
Stuff doesn't just go up because there is a high demand. Unless its gas. But there is already many deals for the DS going on around me, in all the flyers I've looked at, theres at least been lower prices or cheap bundle deals (Game, carrying case). Keep your eyes open because the prices are already falling.

There are 2 new bundles revealed for France.
They seems very charming. If it will come out in other country like uk on the next few days, I would like to wait for it. It will be a good present for GF.

Seller is from Lawton, Oklahoma... that's where I currently live at.
You probably won't see any ridiculous deals - in Canada most stores have promos for it at $139CDN. (approx $120USD, 94EUR or 64GPB) That's about as cheap as I expect it to go until boxing day, where various stores will probably have special deals on it.
I've seen many stores selling it at full price ($149CDN), but hawking a free game with it - I've seen bundles with Pokemon Trozei!, New Super Mario Bros, Clubhouse Games, Starfox Assault and Mario Hoops 3-on-3.
Basically, you're not going to find it for a whole lot cheaper than it sells for now.
