Hacking Disable 80% max brightness limit on some Vita games?

Apologies if this has been answered before - is there a way to counter the way some Vita games limit the max brightness to 80%? Uncharted, the Metal gear solid collection & some other games do this & I'm not sure why. If it's to protect the hardware then fair enough - but if it's just to extend the battery life then I'd like the option to use full brightness.

I read somewhere that this started happening after an earlier update, is this true? It might be heresay, but I'm getting a brand new Japanese Vita (PCH-1000 OLED version) - It should have an early firmware version out of the box, so if it doesn't have the brightness limit I'll leave it on the original firmware..
