Man this has snowballed...

Yeah dub changes are weird but they are sanctioned by Bandai-Namco, even if I disagree with them. However you are free to refer to the Digimon as either name and it's all good.

Anyway!!! How's everyone doing? I am going to be 'that guy' and ask if there's going to be another blog post soon.

Unfortunately you're wrong

They were both called Kumamon in the Dub until 2005's Movie fixed it. (In other words they were called the same for 3 Years)

But the Kumamon reference for Bearmon points to Digimon World 3.
While its possible it was called Kumamon in Digimon World 3 I'm almost sure Chackmon wasn't even in that game, unless you have any further information...
Frankly it's just how I remembered things were, it's possible I remember things only after the fix lol.
Anyways back on topic I guess: Things like that won't happen in our translation. xd

Edit: There will be a blog post Soon™...
Well we'll see. Just wait a little bit longer, it's just "around the corner"... :D xdd

Chackmon wasn't even in the game but it was in the anime that aired the same year in the US.
So we had introduced 2 digimon to the Dub. Kumamon (aka bearmon) in 2002 with DW3 and Kumamon (Aka Chackmon) in 2002 in Frontier.

the fact that you trade marked Soon both amuses and scares me. As well as the use of quotations....

I do love the trademarked Soon...wait, can I be using it with out getting sued?!
I'd assume it falls under the fair use category. Also the fact helps that basically anyone can recreate it by putting a "Soon" and the TM trademark sign together.
While this question might've been rhetoric, I'm not really good on sarcasm so...xd

It's nestled somewhere safe before the world exploded with talk of translated names vs dub names
I don't want to imagine what would happen if we were to release only one version. There's just no pleasing with Digimon fans, one side will always hate you unless you do that. And even then who knows what will happen.xd

Well, personally I'm just happy with what ever. Most old games had the DIgimon attacks dubbed on the screen and the voice yelled the japanese attack. (I'm looking at you DMW2) that game taught me the difference between translation and dub...

But I would like to see that happen...just once... Romsstar...just see the chaos. :D

Forget "old" games, Tales of Hearts R did an amazingly terrible job of this, and Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment is probably the worst translation EVER, including all the old classic gaffes. Bad translation/localization is not uncommon and it's not a thing that has really improved recently. Some companies are just better at the whole process than others, and some are just awful at it. Bamco's track record is pretty bad... good thing we have fan translators who both care about the source material and aren't under deadlines or soulless corporate bosses. Thanks again, you guys.

Yeah, the translation on SAO: Hollow Fragment was pretty bad. I bought a Vita recently, and SAO was my first game. I will say, it's a super fun game, even with the hilariously bad translation.

I agree, it -is- a fun game despite the godawful translation. (I'd heard rumors that it was actually the Taiwanese translation, which for some reason requires an english translation to release there i guess? and they just stuck it in without checking it AT ALL. But i have no sources to cite so take it with a grain of salt.)
There's a nice library of really good games on the Vita though, so good call on grabbing it.

If I recall correctly, they were supposed to use the Asian release as a rough translation, which is not particularly uncommon. And having seen some videos of the Asian release before the western version came out, there are some differences, but not nearly enough. Particularly glaring is Yui telling you and Asuna "good luck with penetration".
