I want to see how much damage Mario caused the gbatemp community. I can only imagine what it did to the people in china who don't have internet access, and buy burned DVD's in the streets!

IF YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW, PAL / JPN / NON-ENGLISH USERS SHOULD NOT LET MARIO TOUCH YOUR WII! At least until we know exactly what to do. Thank you, brave souls who sacrificed your greatest possession so that others may learn and game on.

If you voted NO, was it because you always keep your Wii up to date, or because you checked the forums first?

    Both.

I kept my Wii up to date to make because of this blue light coming forth when an update is available, simple as child's play.

And I checked the thread to see impressions and to make sure there's no special requirements to play this game (particular patch to apply, speed to burn on, does it even works, etc..).

Looking the poors guys who broke their Wii, I've done a pretty good job of prevention [IMG]

Didn't brick my Wii. Was the newest version as of yesterday (2.1E from Everybody Votes-upgrade). SPM did a update when clicking on the Disc channel the first time I played it, but my Wii still works fine without any problems.

From what I've gathered, it seems to be a problem with what firmware was installed before the SPM-update - 2.1E from Everybody Votes doesn't brick (and newer as of today, probably), any older version does. Not sure though.

EDIT: Just read this suggestion in another topic: My Wii was set to German when I did the update. Not sure if that matters, though.

Mine was 2.0J, didn't brick. Just updated awhile ago to 2.2J just to see what the fuzz was with the new browser, it's my first time to see the Everybody Votes thing now too lol...

I don't think the langage of your Wii changes anything during this update. Mine was set to French and run smoothly.

Updated in the Wii Disc Channel, rebooted, and could play SPM without any problems on my PAL Wii.

I read of these stories, and I was glad I had 2.1E. This morning, I updated to 2.2 and inserted SPM for the first time. I was shocked when the update bar didn't stop after the first few pixels, and I was nearly screaming "Oh NOOOOOOOO", but then everything went well [IMG].

I was always affraid of updating my Wii because it might detect my WiiKey, but one week before SPM came out i got enough of it and i decided to update the Wii anyway. Because i knew that games would contain updates anyway and eventually my Wii would get updated.
When SPM came out i downloaded it immediatly without knowing that it could have bricked your Wii.
I guess i got off pretty lucky.
