EDIT: WIP so don't expect anything at the moment, but your console-unique OTP.bin is required for it. Sooner or later you would have to get it from your console.
Members already started backing up their OTP.bin at their own risk. I would rather wait for a different safer method that doesn't involve writing to sysNAND.

Yep just got it done now.

N3DSXL 9.2 to 2.1 to 9.2 no hard mod.

Had a few scares but its done now and have my otp.bin backed up.

A friend with hardmod tried to update with card and from internet and don't work at all. I've seen in the otp tutorial thread this version of Decrypt9 https://gbatemp.net/threads/otp-guide.415140/page-19#post-6084203

If you don't know why downgrade to 2.1 already then don't do it, don't do it on n3ds it's the riskiest o3ds downgrade to 4.5 with gateway or something similar. I had one successful o3ds downgrade after going to 4.5, going straight to 2.1 from 4.5 gave me a soft brick, n3ds I'm waiting for a hardmod
If you don't know what the OTP File is used for don't downgrade its very unfriendly

I updated to 6.2 FW with a game cart then used Decrypt9 to restore nand.

But there's a modded version of Decrypt9 that works on 2.1 FW now.

Doing the 10.3 downgrade with a non hard-modded n3ds was risky enough, no way in heck am I doing this without a hard-mod, 9.2 and emunand work fine for me. If a safer method comes along maybe then but this is too risky for a 200 dollar piece of equipment imho.

I did it without a nand mod too for my o3DS XL. (well it has a nand mod, but it's not a functional nand mod right now). Had no problems. I didn't hex edit the payloads in though. I threw caution to the wind and used the 3dsx installer that was compiled along with arm9loaderhax. I had someone else compile it though as I didn't trust my setup to do it right.

Yes you can use spider exploit that loads decrypt 9 to restore NAND

Just wondering that after doing those patches to the (downgraded but bricked) emuNAND.bin, wouldn't it work as emuNAND again after the modifications to it?

I didn't try... but I wouldn't think so. Emunand already uses 9.x or 10.x FIRMS (depending on what version/flavor of CFW you're using). I would assume that they'd throw up at trying to run a bunch of 2.1 system modules. It shouldn't matter anyway as there is no point. It's already been pointed out that it can't be done with EMUNAND.

Update with a cart to something that will load a CFW. On N3ds, that means you need to upgrade to 9.0 or above, or else you will (might?) brick. You can restore your nand backup with either the Gateway Launcher, or emunand9.

Edit: just noticed the bit about 2.1 compatible emunand9. use that.
