Disgaea DS. A valiant and ambitious undertaking to port the entirety of the PSP game AND THEN SOME to a DS cart. Where's the hype? Where's a countdown? Oh that's right, I'm making one! Release date for Japan is June 26 2008. I forgot it was coming out so soon. I've never tried any of the Disgaea games but heard they're one of the best Turn-based strategy games ever. So it'll be my first Disgaea! And yes, I know Hadrian covered it in his weekly roundup. I'm just giving it some hype. And it's intended for a US release sometime in September.

1 day to go. (Wonder if it'll get dumped early like FFTA2)

And a trailer that everyone has seen (or should see):

All strategy games and dungeon crawlers and no real RPGs makes Destructobot a sad panda.

How do you classify a "real RPG", just wondering?

Personally, I'm not excited about the Japanese release because it is, well, in Japanese. I'm more excited about the English release. [IMG]

Same here with regards to language barriers, but I want to see how the basic game plays.

Ah. I've already played it on the PSP (never finished though since I never use my PSP much) so that's not an issue for me. I'd much rather have it on the DS.

Sounds like Halloween Town from the Nightmare before Christmas...

Anyone have any clue as to what the cartridge size will be? Surely at least 128MB.

Should be huge since they're saying they want to put all the voice acting in.

For the PS2 and PSP English version you can choose to hear English or Japanese voice acting, though I don't think the option will be available for the DS considering the size.

Basically, no strategy type battle system, and a real overworld where you can travel to different towns as you desire.

This is a port of the first game right (PSP version)?

Yeah. It doesn't matter if you haven't played the first game before, since this is a remake of the first game. It's probably better if you haven't, cause then the experience will be totally fresh.

You mean like Diablo or something?

Can you actually move your character around manually outside of battle or is it like FF Tactics where you never get direct control?

Neat! It's a cool little feature that seems to have mostly died in turn based strategy games. Genesis oldies Shining Force 1 and 2 did this as well. It's nice to be able to control them directly as a little diversion between battles!

Yeah, just to expand, you don't actually walk between stages. There's just a town with NPCs you can walk around and talk to. There's a portal which takes you to the battlefields you want.

Although I never got past the first Act so that might change later on. I'm not planning to go back to the PSP version though and just waiting for the DS version now.
