I just bought a R4i 3DS card from r4ids.cn
I put it into the 3DS update 4.5.0-10U without any micro-SDHC card in the slot.
Now, when I have the SDHC card in the slot, when I open the screen after putting in the R4i card it stays black for a couple seconds and then the regular 3DS menu appears with no icon or anything and the card is not recognized.

Did I brick my card? and if I did, how do I fix it?

Well, all I can do to help you is to give you these instructions to unbrick it (if its bricked of course),
1. the damaged r4i gold 3ds
2. a good flash card (no matter what card it is, i use dstt)
3. ds/dsl console
4. sd card
5.The repair patch
Step1: download the repair patch and unzip it.
Step2: put the dstt kernel and the patch file “3DS20_Patch_R4iGold_3DS_NDSL.nds” into the root of sd card, put the sd card into dstt
Step3: start dstt on ds/dsl console, select the 3DS20_Patch_R4iGold_3DS_NDSL.nds
Step4: enter it and DONT START THE UPDATE YET, take out your flashcard and put the damaged r4i gold into the slot. (don’t power off here)
Step5: press A to start
Step6: when it becomes “success”, done!
Not sure if it will work for yours but its worth a try (/o_o)/
