Allow me a few pre-emptive strikes, if you will.

No, I can't simply buy a better connection. There isn't one to buy in the first place.
No, I'm not dumb enough to use something like Direcway.

Anywho I fill up my various harddrives by going to a friend's house on the weekends. He has a modest 1.5mb DSL connection. And since I'm a LAN party kinda guy, I don't mind hauling my PC around.

Well I used to have some DSL connection and now I have a 100kb/s cable connection, which is fine, I don't get people who walk around with 10MB/s speed, when your downloading from websites your never gonna reach 10MB/s when you download torrents, nobody will have uploading speeds upto 10 MB/s , your wasting money...

I have 100mb cable, and once Verizon activates the FioS internet (Fiber optics cables instead of conventional cables) I'll probably get that which is hella faster.
I got Cable internet about a year ago, but before that I had free dial-up that ran at all of 23K! Not even a 56K connection, w00tz!

Also, try playing a game such as Counter Strike online using your dial-up. Please report to us how many minutes it takes for the bullet to get from your gun to the thing you were firing at.

Now I get internet in my dorm from my college, but back in the day it was all about free dial-up. I must have had 10 different free ISPs before they all went bankrupt. Good ol' Netzero and whatnot. Even K-Mart used to have free dial-up at one point- It was called like "blue light" or something.

I have 24mbit at my dads house, 8mbit at my moms house..
