The reason I don't want to deal with Gateway is because of the save file encryption issue. Once you decide to play on emunand, you can't switch to sysnand anymore so you are stuck depending on a flash cart company for the rest of your (3DS') life. Who knows when Gateway decides to abandone their cart and vanish into air like the Cyclops team. Your saves will be lost forever.
Actually if you decrypt your save with Savedatafiler on GW,
theoretically you move the files to another system of higher FW,
use savedatafiler there and reencrypt the game save properly.
Of course, the worry of them leaving is one thing,
but at the very least savedatafiler is a workaround.
If anything, I'm afraid that competitors who appear won't support Devmenu or Savedatafiler,
cause it will destroy any workarounds..
You don't seem to understand the issue at hand. This isn't like DS flash cart saves that you can import, export, convert freely between carts independent from the system menu version. Once GW is gone, you are stuck with for sysnand useless saves.
Afaik there is currently no way to convert 4.x encrypted saves to 6.x encrypted saves and vice versa.
That is because presently Gateway has a faulty implementation of the save keys right?
Because the original exploit was in 4.x.
However, assuming if any competitor uses a similar implementation of Emunand (or at the very least bypasses signature checks), allows SDF, and has keys working,
you could encrypt the saves into 6.x then.
I personally cant say for sure about MT card, because I don't use it and don't know if it's emunand works with 6x.
I can say that Sky3DS is just newb/entry level flashcart, that can't do any of the above..

well if you use the game in classic mode with 6.x+ sysnand the game should work because the keys are loaded in the sysnand so no savegame corruption
It seems you still don't understand the issue at hand. I can't explain it to you any simplier though, so I guess just stick to your opinion.
Thing is this time around there are serious functional differences, and some ease of use ones as well, between the flash carts and not "well my flash cart updated to support the Swedish version of the latest Disney game two days before yours" or something equally pointless/that would be matched in days if it mattered (you might have been around to witness the "download play support will decide the battle" phase for the DS).
Anyway flash carts afford extra storage and do not cost a lot. Combine whatever you like to do whatever you need. Cheats/debugging/ROM hacking would be my priority, assuming the 3ds had a respectable library, but "does it play games in a language I speak, preferably without too much faffing about?" is also an acceptable position.
You're talking about game saves and that GW needs to fix something or else one day they disappear....if you don't want to deal with that hassle than get the alternate option to play your backup roms. Teams come and go, still understood it.
Or just move on to the 4DS after you finished your desired games. Back in the DS-era I even bought a second Cyclo DS in case I damage the first one. Did I ever need it? Of course not. Waste of money.
Sure, I should have kept my N64 back then as well, but honestly I don't even have the space.
