Despite store closures worldwide, GameStop remains open, claiming they are "essential retail"

game-stop-sign.jpg

As GameStop struggles with relevancy within even its own target market, the company itself still believes they're essential to the daily lives of the average gamer. In a memo allegedly sent out to workers at the chain, GameStop head management stated the following: "Due to the products we carry that enable and enhance our customers' experience in working from home, we believe GameStop is classified as essential retail and therefore is able to remain open during this time."

So, if you work at a GameStop, don't think that you'll be able to get a few days off for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While GameStop seems adamant in maintaining that they're "essential", it appears that law enforcement has shown up at certain locations, trying to close the store, only to be informed by GameStop store managers that the video game retailer has legal documentation to prove its importance during the outbreak of a virus.

Essential hugh? So if i were terribly sick, dehydrated, or starved, Gamestop could save my life? Or lets say I was unintelligent and needed a clue quickly, would Gamestop help me there?! Are toys really that important?!

Maybe not save your life but they'll give you $3.30 store credit on that new $60 game you bought a few weeks ago. Can't put a price on that.

They really need customers, that's why their current deal is buy two used games for $9.99 or less and get two free, you also get a free virus & not the electronic kind

this was your idea wasn't it REGGIE?!

He wouldn't localize Mother 3, so it wouldn't be completely out of character.

and keeping the gamers as sane as possible too

GameStop helping with sanity? That doesn't happen. They have had two settings: masochistic and off. Seems like they found out how to be a "danger to society".

Yeah, no, forget what I said before. Not even Reggie can save this kinda sinking ship of arrogance.
Lock Down is causing companies lots of money its affecting the economy in a negative way. Gamestop is a dying buisness and is trying to keep its doors open for as long as they can to survive as a business. This outbreak will hurt them even more as they struggle to survive. The only way to keep their doors open and hold on as much as they can is to prove they are a essential store so they won't be closed. The Arrogance part come from the word "essential" but that word is the only word they can use to keep their doors open. It's a necessary arrogance to survive as a business.

People may not have sympathy for gamestop for various reasons and couldn't care less that they close down because of ways they handle their business, and wouldn't have as much sympathy as they would a smaller business shutting down, but their are people that need that job to make a living and of course business owners dont want to shut down and struggle themselves to survive later on.

The lack of sympathy is the same lack of sympathy people have for older people. Corona virus Boomer Remover trend on Twitter. Many Millenials and Younger dont like older people and think they are backwards racists that need to be eliminated so that the younger generation can come in and put in Democrat policies, and this boomer remover virus is their answer. So they say they dont care about isolating themselves and passing the virus on to older people and say they will party all night long in big social gatherings.

So gamestop is trying to survive as a business and people will call that selfish because that's how they spread the virus for not being on lock down. And this virus is a Gamestop remover in a way and they won't have sympathy for them for dislike of their business practices. Safety is more important then a business I dont like.

Welp. Just hope only the higher up in GameStop are the ones that suffers.

Also, recent reports shows young people do get f'ed up from contracting the virus even if they don't die. You can find article that talks about this here.

As much as I hate to say this, at the very least the positive to come out of this is several employees get to keep their positions. And most of the people that do buy physical will still have the opportunity to do so. (before you go thinking I'm a sympathizer I worked for them for 5 years, not necessarily the worst of my life but damn sure not the best, they were just a stepping stone and I was in mgmt)

I bet if they close for 2 weeks, they would have to file for chapter 11

I think so, too. Gamestop already has one foot in the grave and can probably not survive shutting down for a few days. They're only delaying the inevitable anyway.

You people and your "just buy from amazon" mentality are you fucking retarded. Do you not see someone has to go in to a packaging and distributing factory and package/ship said product where 100s of others work. Then someone has to deliver said product to your door potentialy delivering the virus right to your door. So put 100s of people at risk buying your 1 thing on amazon its way better than going to gamestop.

The folks in charge of GameStop/EBGames surely has a high ego. They feel they are essential, and apparently forgot that digital downloads are a viable option. Yes, I'm sure people who are going out for essential food, water, toiletries, etc will find the time to go to a GameStop to buy a game they may already have or can easily buy online and avoid any risk of catching a cold from a store. And of course there are some anonymous employees of GameStop stating they have no sanitizer or enough employees to keep the stores clean and sterile.

How do you think shit gets to gamestop?

Granted... Amazon probably isn't enforcing the distancing/sanitation they should on their workers either. But its still less exposure than bringing in thousands of people to your store over a week.

Best buy, who actually sells a few "essential" goods like home appliances on top of video games, is moving to limited hours, encouraging curbside pickup, and allowing only 10-15 customers in store at a time, who are escorted by an employee to maintain social distancing. Meanwhile the only thing Gamestop can seem to manage is move the launch of Doom up one day.

I love how this news has pretty much killed everyone's hype over Reggie joining Gamestop. Most people forgot it, and now just remember the company as the company that keeps their employees working during a pandemic, and maybe gives them hand sanitizer.

If Gamestop had any good will left, boy are they destroying it fast.

I will never forget the day i walked into gamestop. I had just jailbroken my ps4. But i was hungry. In. Between jobs. Broke as a joke. I brought all my ps4 games i had just backed up to fpkg and was like well maybe i can buy some groceries. Let’s see how it goes. I think they gave me something like $12 for 3 games. One they said they didn’t buy back and another they said was eu and that they don’t buy eu games in usa gamestop. It was heavy rain and beyond two soul remastered. I think the clerk knew i felt defeated. I took what i could get. The clerk followed me out the store and offered me $5 dollars for it. Which I gladly accepted. Now I am doing very well for myself.

Gamestop I sincerely hope the pandemic grinds you into dust...

Camelot331 on YouTube has released the conference call between the higher ups and regional managers. A regional manager asked them if at this point it was profits over people and they didn't have a good answer.

Dont get me wrong im not saying they should stay open just saying ordering on amazon isnt any better. Its still a greedy company making people work in an environment thats not safe. Now im also not saying any place should or shouldnt shut down. If u feel scared and dont feel safe going out dont but dont over react and make the whole country sit at home with you. Last i checked this is a free country. When did we loose the right to go outside. I didnt know i moved to north korea
