Hi everybody, I've been requested by two friends to modify their Wii U's to play backups.

The problem is, i stopped tinkering with Wii Us years ago (since 5.3.2 loadiine days) and I'm completely out of touch of the scene.

The scene has progressed by leaps and bounds since then, im just wondering, what is the most desirable Wii U setup in 2017 to achieve this?

I know all the fun happens on 5.5.1 these days, and that NAND redirection is essentially useless because the latest and final firmware is compromised.

HaxchiFW, cold booting, signature patching, mochaCFW, kernel exploits, Brazillian method blah blah, I'm not sure :P

Thanks for reading :)

Check my guide in my signature. It might help.
Also, check Kafluke's too!

But anyways. Free methods are as following:
Browserhax->HBL->Mocha CFW
And paid methods:
Haxchi->Haxchi CFW->HBL
ColdBootHaxChi->CBHC CFW->HBL

Felek666 said it all.
In my opinion the best setup is to buy one of the Haxchi compatible eShop games and get Haxchi (or CBHC) set up.
Then launch Haxchi (or "let" CBHC launch) after every boot into it's custom firmware (by having this line in SD:\haxchi\config.txt -> default=sysmenu) and do one of the following two things:
  • install games you dumped or downloaded by Wii U USB Helper with Homebrew Launcher -> WUP Installer GX2
  • run the games and have a nice day

I see that they finally replaced the garbage part of the guide (using mocha with haxchi/cbhc..)
Still garbage because JESUS WHY IT DOESN'T EXPLAIN ANYTHING?!
It's a brick way for your Wii U -_-

The correct answer is Haxchi.

Once Haxchi is installed verified working Install CBHC.
Wii U USB helper
Wup installer gx2

All you need right there.

"The first guide that doesn't use outdated methods"

That's a bold statement considering the temp has had updated guides for months.
