Dell has revealed their Alienware Concept UFO at CES 2020. No specs have been released, but it has been shown running Windows 10 and playing games like Rocket League, F1 2019, and Mortal Kombat 11. It bears a striking resemblance to the Nintendo Switch, including removable controllers that slide in the sides, a kickstand, and a separate piece of hardware that lets you use both controllers together as a more traditional gamepad, similar to the Joy-Con Grip. It even includes a custom launcher that looks like the Switch Home Menu.

USB-C ports on the top and bottom allow you to plug in a charger, external display, keyboards, mice, and other game controllers.

No official word on price yet.

Let's get real. The switch is a tablet. Nintendo didn't invent tablets. The switch is hardly innovative or new. The only thing about the Dell product that is otherwise similar is the sliding controllers part, don't know why they'd make that part so obviously derivitave.

Honestly seeing how successful the Switch has been, I'm surprised that there haven't been clones already. I would have thought the chinese Android-machiene makers would have been all over it.

A Win-10 machine is a very interesting idea... Honestly I've been constantly looking for that perfect "all-in-1" device that can be used for productivity and gaming both portably and on TV.

JXD S7800B, GPD XD and GPD - Win were all close but they all lacked when connecting to TV because changing controllers wasn't seamless... Was a complete PITA to be honest. Presumably the detachable controllers on this thing would resolve that issue.

It'll be interesting to get an idea of price, weight, heat and battery life for this thing.

I wouldn't say you can even really rip off the idea of a switch. Mobile controllers for your phone have had a similar gimmick for quite some time. also this is just a tablet with a controller which doesn't really even resemble the switch. Nonetheless I won't be buying it and I doubt a lot of people will

What about the custom UI? Looks very similar to the Switch Home Screen if you ask me.

Perhaps a picture of it with the controllers attached would change your mind?

I'd say they look similar, but I stand by my point about how the switch itself resembles many mobile phone controllers

I haven't used a switch so I wouldn't know, but if it's similar then that is quite derivative indeed.

If it wasn't Alienware, it would actually be priced reasonably, but yeah, not worth it.

If it has the x2 chip, then it will be a switch killer.

It's running Windows games so it's almost certainly an Intel chip.

And if it was an Android/Win system with an x2 it still wouldn't be a switch killer as it wouldn't have, you know, all the Nintendo games. Not to mention it'll probably be way more expensive than a Switch...

    windows runs on arm.

nintendo titles are only a small fraction of the switches library, and the switch struggles to play AAA third party.

I doubt this thing is going to run AAA third party reliably well either - will be probably closer to GPD Win 2 in terms of actual range of playable games. I mean, the fact that they used Rocket League and what appears to be F1 2019 on low settings as benchmark examples already doesn't strike much confidence.

    It's a 10th gen Intel part, probably Y series, maybe U.

Also the TX2 is a potato. I have one. For CPU perf, the Amlogic S922X on my Odroid N2 seems close or better in some situations.

It's not like the concept of a portable PC didn't exist before Switch, just look at the Shield Portable or GPD Win for examples. As I stated in another thread, the issue has always been finding the right balance between size, power, and price. A lot of people consider Switch's form factor to be too big, and the early prototypes of this 'UFO' are considerably larger than that. This would also have to be at least $600 for 1080p 60FPS performance, and it will have no exclusives. The one advantage being that it can play most/all of your games from an existing Steam library.

Ultimately though, this will be an enthusiast-level device for people with a lot of disposable income, and those expecting it to compete with Switch's sales numbers are deluding themselves. Its appeal is limited.

They could win if they allow the charging of the controllers while attached to that unifying thingy.

That's more a joycon issue than it is an issue for the whole system. Which is why I bought the Hori split pad, it's just as comfortable as a Pro controller or XB1 controller.

I totally agree, that's the only way they could win.
