The Acekard R.P.G. is one of the latest in the range of slot-1 flash kits for the Nintendo DS and is also the latest product from the Acekard Team who brought us the original Acekard and later, the Acekard+.

The original Acekard, while not received very well; was revolutionary at its time because it was the first flash kit to boast perfect compatibility with all DS games. Unfortunately the cart suffered from a few major user interface problems that prevented it from being the coveted cart it could have been. Buggy PC software and a proprietary file system made using the cart a chore.

The team later released the Acekard+, which they offered as a FREE upgrade to owners of the previous Acekard no less. The Acekard+ resolved the issues of the original by offering simple drag and drop support and allowing FAT file systems to be used. The Acekard+ was a major improvement but it came too late, with other carts arriving on the scene, the Acekard+ was again left behind.

After a ten month hiatus the team are back with their latest creation - the Acekard R.P.G. (R.P.G. standing for Real Play Gear). The Acekard R.P.G. has turned a few heads as it is the first DS flash kit to offer both internal flash memory and support for Micro SD and Micro SDHC cards; quite a feat for such a small device!

Your opinion?

Don't own one, so can't say for sure, but heres my impression:

Hardware specs are great. Gives it lots of potential. Lacking softwarewise, but this will hopefully be fixed some day. Pricewise its a bit on the expensive side.

Bottom line: Even if you're new to flashcards, there are other cards that are cheaper and has better software. If the software was polished before the release, it would have been a real competitor as a high-end/future-proof card. I fear its a bit too late for that now, but who knows what the future holds?

Good idea for having both internal memory and microSD
I think it is just marketing, because from hardware side it is annoying.
For example you want to backup all saves in zip file, what do you do
Put out microsd, plug into reader, plug reader to pc, backup (normally it would be all over , but ...),
them you put microsd to acekard, and what ? you must plug now this freakin cable, onto acekard and do the same procedure again. I think that much better would be if creators of Acekard RPG would make some connection between cable and microsd,
so you could access both memorys with cable, but no, you have to use acekard like you would own two flashcarts (when comming to save backups or rom copying). And that copying-paste feature suck too, because ou cannot make new folder with it and cannot
mark couple of files (it would be very usefull if user for example would like to backup saves).
And last thing that i dont like, you have all files view, save+nds view, and nds view, but no saves (alone) view, it is annoying , because sometimes if you want to copy save (to backup it) you cant "order" acekard to view only saves alone, you have nds+save view (and when you have 1 gb occupied space this is lot of unwanted .nds icons) (m3simply have that view feature, so why acekard dont)

I remember when people were all skeptical about slot 1 cards, saying we would only ever have slot 2, and look at it now, this thing has an amazing set of hardware in it, very impressive.

Seems good from reviews so far, not sure why GBATEMP gave it a silver, what would get a gold? Or is it biased here towards the CycloDS which doesn't have any internal ram (for saving roms to, that is.. of course it has 2 megabytes built in).

I'd like to get my hands on one of these. I am a huge M3 Real fanboy by all means and everyone should know by now and label me as such for life, but I know a good card when I see one.

SPEECHLES & AMPTOR UNITE FOR THE PRAISE OF M3 DS REAL.

We are not biased, and you should know that. Gold award is reserved for the very best carts, the CycloDS Evolution has 'polish', everything is finished to a high standard, there are very few bugs, and it is a pleasure to use in general. I'm not saying these are the only things we look for (not by a long shot) but all in all, it comes down to the current experience, not potential.

Gambia, The
sounds interesting - but as long they cant available better at more stores for a competitive price I dont really see the value

I think its a catch 22 - if you cant attract open source programmers because the price is too high it wont become a popular card

An excellent card, and it only costs a little more than a 8GBit G6 Real.
he only real issue is that the loader is lacking in features, although this is being consistently updated.
