Well, I got my DSlite out today and noticed that there is a small crack in the hing. Not sure how this happened as I keep it in a hard case and have a clear case around the actual machine. I glued it with some super glue and it seems to be holding. But, my questions is - will the cracked hing lead to more problems? The clear case is hinged based so it does provide support. But not sure if that will be enough. Any advice is welcome.

    Depends.

On the right side, if there is a crack was likely caused by overweighting of the the hinge in the factory, in this case there was nothing you can/could do to prevent it, nor was it your fault yo begin with.

If it is on the left hand side, I believe it is only a cosmetic defect.

Ok, now time to get to the point, the crack on the right hand side will result in a full blown crack.

It will start out as a cack similar to this.

The the crack will develop and over time (I am giving you around two weeks minimum) it will result in this.

So I propose you try out the following solutions if it ever comes to this.

    1. You trash the thing and get a new ds lite.
    2. You get a new shell for the ds lite an either attempt to repair it yourself (I recommend you don't attempt this) or get someone else to do it.
3 If you still have warranty, get new one from the shop you brought it at or Nintendo themselves, but be warned, Nintendo will most likely dismiss that it was their fault it cracked and will try and make you pay around $70.

I misunderstood where the crack in the hinge problem was that people refer to on the site. Mine is on one of the small connector shafts (on the left) that allow the DS to open and shut - its the small piece above the crack in link number one. The crack goes from left to right ... LOL, wish I could explain better. It doesn't seem to be affecting the machine. I was just shocked when I looked at my DS Lite and noticed it. Any report of this type of crack ... and will it lead to more problems?

Instead of getting a new DS lite, I am thinking about picking up a DSi - have a 100 dollar gift card to Best Buy ... just not sure yet.

Found an image - my crack in the hinge is just like the small crack here on the connector shaft.

It's not a huge problem, if you have a hard case on the outside providing support. My brother's one was the same, until he dropped it and now the entire top screen is floppy. Still works perfectly though.

If it is on the left side then it is not really a problem, bu be extra careful with it.
