    Has there been any progress with these wii's. I'm thinking of buying a new wii. Will there be a way for the drive to read backups?

    if you want to play backup disk's I would suggest getting an older second hand Wii cause I think the only way to play games on the newer Wii's is through USB loaders I could be wrong

    I guess i could always buy a new wii and get a replacement drive.Has this been tested and works?I set up usbloader gx for my bro and its pretty good but i like having a disk backup in case the hdd goes.

    just googled and they say on the wiikey site that you can but i'm not sure

    You can take out the drive and put in a new one. That's what I did.

    all dvd's drives are universal.

    Yeah, I just keep my original backups on another HDD (in cISO format to save even more space). Easier and more reliable than burning discs.
