You too can have very normal feelings about video games. It's not hard if you try.

Yeah, but for those of us who want to do what we want with our devices, consoles have more or less become gaming service set top boxes, something one can also do with a PC if they're willing to put in the work to get it set up like such.

MS probably holding it back so they can show off how much better things look on the XSEX compared to the XBO X!

A GTX 1080ti barely outperforms Series X. Which still makes the console a great value as long as it comes in between $500 and $600, but Nvidia will be releasing its 3000 series right after PS5/XBSX come out, making both closer to midrange gaming PCs rather than high-end.

if anyone thinks the series X is going to be as powerful as a 2080 super than you need to wake the fuck up out of your delusional dream! :rofl2:

That is one benifit of pc doing more then gaming. But a huge benifit of consoles is ease of use. Trouble shooting a pc is annoying. Even Microsoft drivers for their own x box controller sucks and you need to find work around to get stuff to work.

Honestly majority of people don't want to manage a pc, and the great value of a console is what drives sales. And just want a gaming centric device.

1080ti is comparable to a 2080 without raytracing. Raytracing destroys the 10 series gpus. So series x with raytracing capabilities already is in a league of its own above the 10 series cards.

Most pc gamers still game at 1080p. Most popular gpu on steam is 1060. Next 1050 ti, 1050, then 1070.

Series x and ps5 will out perform the vast majority of pc players. Most gamers don't by the expensive high end gpus. So the possibility of most owning a 30 seires gpu is tiny. They usually go for an outdated card on sale or used. So consoles are an excellent value. Especially when used next gen consoles start to happen.

I remain skeptical about that. Whatever implementation of ray-tracing that AMD is using in next-gen consoles does not require the ray-tracing cores present in RTX cards, so it should be possible to implement for all PC GPUs, AMD and Nvidia, in the future via firmware/driver updates. It also remains to be seen if the performance hit of enabling ray-tracing on next-gen consoles is even worth it.

I didn't say most would own them, I only said that they will set the new standard for "high-end" gaming PCs.

Next-gen consoles certainly. PS4/XB1 were more like low-end gaming PCs even at the time of their release, so it's good to see Sony and MS upping the ante a bit (finally).

Ayyy lmao where my 30 FPS gang at?!

Don't have a cow man, I already stated twice that I think next-gen consoles should provide good bang for your buck. Depending on how bad the performance hit is, though, I doubt I'll be enabling ray-tracing much or at all. Since my display options for the PS5 will be [email protected] or [email protected], I'm gonna need every bit of its horsepower to reach those frame rate targets.

Well I'm officially hyped (by the Digital Foundry video rather than the OP vid) - never really found the game that interesting up till now, but it looks fantastic! Cannot see it running that well on especially the vanilla XBO and PS4 though, in fact it might be a case of the PS4 Pro/One X only just giving a good experience.... think this one will wait for when I get one of the next gen consoles ;)

Man, if this game doesn't live up to the hype, it is going to be bad.

I don't believe I included any insults in that post, I was simply alluding to the performance dip associated with ray-tracing. And 8 cores are great, AMD has definitely been dominating the CPU market the last few years. Now if only they could make some high-end GPUs capable of forcing Nvidia to lower the MSRP of RTX/3000 series cards.

Considering that raytraced minecraft is going to be on next gen consoles, it looks its more then just light ray traced use, its full on global illumination. Seems hardware will be similar to raytraced cores on rtx cards. Many day 1 ps5 games are using raytracing so it looks like its going to be common.

The 10 series also doesn't have dedicated raytraced cores and supports raytracing with driver updates, so we get a glimpse of the huge performance hit that has on those cards without rtx cores. Light ray trace use has very minor performance hit. But the heavier more taxing use destroys those cards.
