Why did they name it after something that apparently destroys the world? It like the the creators subconsciously believe its going to fail.

It was because the planned release was for 2012.

Besides, Pandora is also a moon of Saturn.

Finally!
It looks really interesting!

I still have doubts over whether it's worth it (price-wise).

Firstly, I know ppl have commented on this post, but I just can't resist.

Pandora was a 'person', not a 'thing'.....
The box (jar) she opened did not destroy the world, it simply released all the evils we now experience.

And I'm pretty sure hackers of the PSP did not think their (Pandora) batteries were going to fail, so why should these ppl.

Think of 'Pandora' in this case to be synonymous with 'releasing a kind of power'.

School's out!

And let's take it one step further, shall we? Once she (unwittingly) released all the evils upon the world, she shut the jar to prevent more from escaping... trapping hope, that was at the bottom of the jar, before it could get out into the world. So the Pandora's box nowadays would be a box containing hope. Think about it.

Metamythology.

I would think about buying one if the price was not that high and if more payment methods were available (paypal, credit card, ...)

Indeed. That price could net us a netbook, which could probably do a whole lot more.

This things runs flash the same way any Linux netbook would I believe. So no need to port Android across.

Why is everybody whining about the specs ? Okay, it's a bit expensive for that, but still, Pandora is more powerful than any handheld console. It is not a computer.

its gonna be difficult to be played like concentrating yer hands to the top part for games... still will sell well if well advertised
no hope for nds nor PSP right? N64 and PSX is enuf if u ask me for the two arguably popular games ever
is there surely no PSP? there is a pandora battery lol
its more like a pico computer... it has more things to do than just games, it has super great potential

for all you people saying it's too expensive, it runs pretty much the same hardware as the nokia n900 and the iphone 3gs. the only functionality it misses is onboard gps and gsm/3g for making calls. in it's place it adds proper gaming controls and a decent sized screen for playing them on.

now, how much does a nokia n900 or an iphone 3gs cost? yeah, thought so.

and yes, as clegion says - it's a mini computer. the world is your oyster with this thing, the software library will be humungous and way more diverse than anything you can find in the appstore or the n900 repo. add to that the fact that some of the best developers/coders on the net are on this thing then £270 is a small price to pay.

i'm not rich, i earn a mediocre wage and £270 is a fair amount of money to me. but this thing is worth it, it never even occurred to me once that it was over priced, and when i compare it to similar hardware available - it's cheap.

mine will be arriving this week or next, i'll do review when it gets here.

edit: and for you people who say getting a netbook and usb controller would be a better idea - you completely missed the point. this thing goes in your pocket, it's the size of a ds phat (slightly smaller iirc).
