Is this at all possible? No I don't mean the "adding a picture as a background" method. I read up somewhere that it was doable with a USB stick along with using 360Xplorer or some software like that. Will this sort of stuff get you banned?

It is possible. Their is a warez site that has a section with nearly 400 custom themes.

Forgot to add, is it bannable? Seeing as how it's easily possible to add premium themes. Will said themes have different blades or just one background picture for everything?

Custom themes only have different pictures for each section of the dashboard (Main, Games Library, Video/Music/Picture Library, System Settings). I'm pretty sure no one has gotten banned for it. You should be fine.
