So, I've had this ongoing problem with my Wii that's very strange, almost like it doesn't want to play Wii games anymore. Before hacking my Wii, the disc drive just stopped working with only Wii games (unfortunately it also killed my copy of SSBB before dying), then after hacking it I had massive problems trying to get Wii games and only Wii games to work. It would always kick me back to the Wii menu, or would freeze on the rare occasion. The weird part is that it would never stay consistent, and would stop working the next time I'd want to play with it. I tried writing down notes to get an idea of what to do next time and made tons of research to get a better understanding of what I did wrong, but those notes would be worthless because It would stop working and nothing I've written down would fix it.

I've followed the guide from RiiConnect24 from the beginning, and looked at MVG for how to install WiiWare games so I'm pretty sure I did everything right. The only thing I came-up with all my research is that there's a problem with the CIOSes... But I'm not sure what.

    Things I've tried:
    >Switched IOS 249 to v10 r53
(worked for a bit in the past but stopped working)
    >Manually uninstalled IOS 249-251 and reinstalled them to what the guide recommended
    (Same thing)
    >Reformatted the SD card and tried vaguely re-following the guide
(the only thing that did was make the USB work)
    >Tried playing around with different CIOS versions
(there's 4 versions that are available in my d2x: v4, v6, v10 r52, and v10 r53... None of them did anything different apart from kicking me back to the Wii menu at varying speeds, same with the different bases)
    >Tried playing Wii games in both an SD card (with WiiFlow) and USB (with USB Loader GX)
(both just kick me back to the Wii menu)

At this point the only option I can think of is to nuke the Wii, start again and hope for the best, but part of me thinks that somehow this won't work. This childhood Wii of mine is just cursed to never play Wii games anymore for some reason (guess it had enough of me playing MKWii and SSBB)

    Hello.:)

How is your USB "Device" formatted please ?
If you maybe use an USB Stick/Flash Drive/Pen Drive/Thumb Drive and that kind, please try/switch to an HDD (with Power Adapter).
Did you have used the "WiiBackup Manager" for the Game Transfers from the PC to your USB "Device" ?
Which USB Port on the Wii did you use please ?

    Thank you.:)

I'm using Linux, is there a version of ModMii for that?

Both the USB and SD Card were formatted to FAT32, and I can't really try WiiBackup Manager because Linux. However there is a tool called "wit" for Linux that essentially does the same thing but through a terminal. The ROMs I've used on this Wii have worked before, it's just for some reason the USB loaders just refuses to load them now.

For the Game Transfer maybe you can try Wii Backup Fusion:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/wiibafu/files/

Also the WBFS Manager should still working with Linux:
    https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Archiv/WBFS_Manager/

I am very sorry,I do not use Linux, but I am pretty sure,
the WiiBackup Manager should work under/with WINE.

    Good luck
    Thank you.:)

I've heard in one post here that it could be because the Wiis hardware could be dying. In a way it does make sense, this thing has been with me since 2010. Though something about it always made me feel like it's a launch model Wii, as it takes while to load anything up upon booting it compared to other Wiis with GameCube ports I've seen.

I don't think the problem is with the games, as two month ago I ran Kirby Return to Dreamland without any issues (apart from the anti-piracy thing). Now testing that same ROM that I've left in the SD card consistently crashes my Wii. (turns-out Klonoa was the only one that resets my Wii, all the other ROMs just crashes it now)

I want to be wrong, and I want to try my best to be proven wrong. But if my Wii is permanently "Wii-less" I have other means that I could play Wii games; like dolphin, or hacking my Wii U.

It just sucks that the Disc Drive is also borked. Whenever I insert a Wii Disc now it literally crashes the Wii Menu! I have never seen something like that happen to a Wii!

What's the name of the app and can I download it in the Homebrew Browser, if not, you're gonna need to provide me with a download link to be safe.

Your sysCheck says -> Your Wii is not completely modded.
As you said, you are using Linux, you need now Access to a Windows PC to get your Update Files.
You can maybe try to run ModMii in WINE.
Then you can use your sysCheck.csv on ModMii for the Update.
ModMii gets then all Files you need and you can install it with an WAD Manager like YAWMM.

If you can not have the Chance of achieve this, you can try again,to install the needed cIOSes for Slot 249/250 manually.
For this you can please use the d2x cIOS Installer and this Manual/Guide if you like:
    https://wii.guide/cios.html
Please use exactly the Settings/Bases/Version as in the Guide !

After that, please make a new sysCheck and then you maybe can try to load your Games with the USBLoader GX.

And please confirm/check these Points please:
If you maybe use an USB Stick/Flash Drive/Pen Drive/Thumb Drive and that kind, please try/switch to an HDD (with Power Adapter).
Which USB Port on the Wii did you use please ?
And which Version from the USBLoader GX did you actual use please ?
If it is r1272 then please use an older Version like r1268.
Or you can try the Enhanced Version from @blackb0x

    Good luck

So I'm back, and here's where I'm at:

As you know I'm using Linux, but I also have dedicated Windows machines made to play old Windows games. So, I used ModMii on my Win7 PC and wasn't able to install anything because all my Windows machines are offline (it's complicated).

However ModMii was still able to construct a guide on how to hack the Wii, and I have a couple questions about it:
    1. The thing says I need the IOS236 patcher, which I've never heard of before. I made a bit of research and found that it's a depreciated tool that if something goes wrong, I need to insert a Wii game... I can't do that with my Wii anymore. The Disc Drive is borked! Why do I need this program when according to plenty of other forums including this one d2x is a better and simpler option.

    2. I see that I need to install plenty of IOSes, most of them being under slot 200 which Cyan of this forum explained that installing IOSes under 200 were ill advised, since those were slots used by Nintendo. Is there a reason for overwriting these slots?

    3. Why is this guide different from the RiiConnect24 guide? it can't be because it has more features, as the RiiConnect24 guide allowed me to do everything with my Wii, and was simpler to follow. The only issue was... Well... Playing Wii games, and even then this feels like this was no fault of the guide, this just feels like an anomaly for my Wii with all the research I've done. (part of me feels like I should try on another Wii to be sure)

I've installed cIOS v10 r52 on IOS 249 base 56, IOS 250 base 57, and IOS 251 base 58 so many times now. The only reason why you didn't see IOS 250 and 251 on the syscheck was because according to Cyan: USB Loaders only need IOS 249 to function unless told otherwise, but I'll do it one last time, and if it doesn't work... Then I guess my Wii is the definition of 2 GameCubes Duck-taped together, because GameCubes can't play Wii games.

    1. ios236 is mostly for brick recovery or else yes, it is not much used
2.slot under 200 are Nintendo stock ios. Yes if you don't know what you are doing, don't touch them but you still can update them to the latest versions if you know what you are doing
Didn't Cyan told you Wii apps only use one ios at a time? If they are not being used, they just sit there without any harm but are ready when needed.(like games that require cios with different bases).
So why would you remove them??

You didn't answer other questions from alexander1970... Maybe you know exactly what your Wii's condition is but others don't have crystal ball.
Again, if you are using flash drives or that sort, I wish you GOOD LUCK
