"CTGP Deluxe" mod for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available now

The days of Wii modding brought forth a big number of diverse entries, from New Super Mario Bros. mods and its recreations of past titles or entirely new maps and gameplay, to Super Smash Bros. Brawl and its still strong mod scene with new fighters, maps, music and almost everything in the game, to also Mario Kart Wii mods, which prompted the inception of the now widely known "CTGP" named hacks for anything Mario Kart.

Since then, CTGP mods for Mario Kart titles have been available for each entry of the series since, with Wii being the first one, then Mario Kart 7 (CTGP-7) and now for Mario Kart 8, which is based on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for this mod, titled "CTGP Deluxe".

This new CTGP entry adds entirely new tracks to the original Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which range from past Mario Kart tracks from the SNES, GBA, 3DS and other older entries, to tracks from other racing franchises, like Diddy Kong Racing, new tracks inspired by levels from other non-racing games, like Sonic Unleashed, to entirely new custom maps made exclusively for this CTGP DX release.

CTGP Deluxe adds 14 new cups, with 56 additional custom tracks and an all-new soundtrack with brand new features, and is available for download right now for those interested in trying it out in either their own hacked Switch, or through an emulator, at the CTGP Deluxe website, with install instructions available on the site as well.

What!!!! :wtf:

🤦

LOL!
If you're on the Wii U you have two choices for good mods:
  1. Mario Kart 8 Ultimate
Has many tracks and is some kind of successor to CTGP-Café but requires Tiramisu and a specific SDcafiine fork to run (thus doesn't run on Aroma and probably never will). It also requires the 4.1 update (while 4.2 is the most recent one).
  2. Mario Kart Generations
Replaces the original cups/tracks unfortunately but is pretty solid as I didn't face any broken track yet that results in the feared "Lakitu loop". It also runs perfectly fine with SDcafiine on Aroma and works (even requires) the most recent MK8 update which is v4.2
I play Mario Kart Generations. Since it (sadly) replaces the vanilla cups rather than adding the new ones on top like a traditional CTGP mod would do, I installed both, the EU and the US version of MK8. I keep the EU version unmodded to enjoy the vanilla experience while I use Generations with the US version.

Very interesting options I didn't knew existed!

Thanks a lot!

As I said before, when I get my Wii U back from the grave, will test one of them. I'm planning on using Aroma so Generations would be my option.

You're welcome.
You really can't go wrong with Generations. I recommend the dual setup (EU and US version) to still have access to the vanilla experience as written above.
You could of course also decide to have just one instance of MK8 and toggle SDcafiine to apply (or not apply) Generations at each boot but the issue with that is of course that time trials are messed up since they depend on the individual tracks.

Anyone tried swapping a ctgp track for another custom track? I tried modifying the ctgp mod files by replacing and renaming all of the corresponding file of CT_00 with another working ct, the new track thumbnail shows up on the menu but selecting it crashes the game

I'm not too deep into this but iirc it's not as simple as replacing any track with another one. Something (the skyboxes?) have to match in order for this to work.
Take this with a grain of salt but you're better off asking this on their Discord to get a quality reply.

1) You posted a link to a comment two above mine, instead of quoting me then quoting yourself to make your point clearer - oookay. I'd understand posting a link if your comment was on a different page or something, but same page? Really?
Couldn't just Ctrl+C Ctrl+V your post or quote it - you went out of your way to right-click on the comment number and copy that link, and post that. What....?
I'm sorry, but I just can't see the logic here. Apologies.

2) Your comment is on the 6th page, not the first, so I didn't see it when I posted. Since GBAtemp shows the most recent few comments only after submitting a post, that's when I saw your comment. So "excuuuuse me princess" (to use a Nintendo meme) for not going to the 6th page immediately upon seeing the dead video.

I had a blast playing through all 14 cups with my brother last weekend. The tracks are official quality (for the most part), I did have a minor issue with one of the cups crashing the game loading one of the tracks but the same track worked in Time Trials and VS. Genuinely impressed, Mario Kart modding has come a long way since CTGP Revolution.

Sweet mod! I liked the idea on the 3DS, but never installed it. I installed this one though, it's like breathing new life into the game. My kids are going to freak out when I show them the new tracks.

Lucky kids they are! :) I was talking about this mod to my niece, and next thing I knew, she was looking to buy a v1 Switch to hack it, without even seeing the mod in action. She hands my ass to me when we play Mario Kart together.
