CTGP-7 v1.0 releases November 29th, adding Countdown mode, CTWW and 32+ new tracks

CTGP-7 is a romhack for Mario Kart 7 adding new features to the game. 5 years after the first version was released, the CTGP-7 dev team is proud to present what we consider the biggest update to the mod ever made, the v1.0 update.

In this update, many new features have been added to the mod, of which the following are the most notable:
  • Custom Tracks Worldwide (CTWW): With CTWW enabled, selecting worldwide in the online multiplayer menu will put you in an unused region. In this region CTGP-7 players can play custom tracks without interfering vanilla Mario Kart 7 users.
  • Countdown Mode: While using CTWW, you can select between VS race and Countdown mode. In this new game mode there are infinite laps and the timer counts backwards from a certain value (about 2 minutes). After it reaches 0 you won't be able to move anymore. In order to gain some time, hit other players with items. The full game mode rules can be found here.
  • 32+ New Custom Tracks: Thanks to the cup extension feature added in 0.21, we are finally able to add tons of new custom tracks to the game. The custom track count has increased from 30 in v0.21.4, to 56 in v1.0.
  • Anti Cheat: The Anti cheat will help mitigate cheaters in the worldwide mode. If you play a lot in normal worldwide, then this feature is for you!
  • Custom Character Manager & Others: Other smaller features were added to the mod as well. With the custom character manager, you can place character packs (which may include model, voice and UI modifications) in the MyStuff folder. They can be individually enabled from the custom ingame menu later (press Select). There are also some other new small features, they are listed in the changelog below.

  • Alphabetical Track Order: Choose if you want tracks to be ordered alphabetically online.
  • Improved CTRPF library: Removed all features that could cause lag online.
  • General improvements: Almost every single feature of CTGP-7 has been fixed or improved, so take a look at the ingame menu!

DISCLAIMER: The beta test group (about 12 different people) have been play testing on the CTWW unused region for 9 months already, and so far, we didn't encounter any issues. We have no idea if Nintendo can detect the usage of this unused region, but if they did, we are pretty confident no action will be taken (due to the game being old and the mod not affecting vanilla users). If we however find issues, we will be forced to switch to the used region and find a way to prevent matching with other vanilla players. CTGP-7 will not send data to the unused region until you press the Worldwide button in the online menu with CTWW enabled. All the other features are 100% undetectable as they are client sided.

Very, very cool. I really love all of the work that has been put into this mod. I still remember downloading this early enough when there wasn't even custom tracks over every stage! Good luck with the continuing development.

I am really exited about this. :)
It is a bit sad that MK7 does not have other big romhacks, especially if you compare it to MKW.

Edit: Will it be possible to install CTGP-7 as separate CIA?

Few things about this:
-it's pretty amazing how active the online still is, which is nice. Im probably gonna be on CTWW a lot too
-it's nice Space Road is finally with the other Rainbow Roads
-lots of DS stages which is good because DS has the best stages
-surprised to see no Wii or MK8 tracks here (other than N64 Rainbow Road), though I assume Tick Tock Clock pulls from that version too. Either way that's a bit of a shame.
-Cowntdown Mode looks interesting and it's nice to see new modes being added

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
If you can find enough for it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Toilet paper is considered the money, you collect and buy stuff with TP, kinda funny. Graphics are def better than the other games tho, I think they used Unity 5 engine.

I bet most people at the time still watched it in black and white
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Many of them did before colour television was common.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Likely because black and white TV was in-expensive.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It certainly wasn't inexpensive it cost the same as a new car back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
How much did a 1965 color TV cost?

For example, a 21-inch (diagonal) GE color television in 1965 had an advertised price of $499, which is equal to $4,724 in today's dollars, according to the federal government's inflation calculator.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@K3Nv2, take into consideration how economy was back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah that's why they listed inflation rates

    Sorry didnt read that part
