After twenty years after Argonaut's liquidation, they recently resurrected and have announced a 2024 remaster to their 90's platformer classic "Croc: Legend of the Gobbos". There's not been a supposed release date as of yet, but it'll be launching on both PC and modern home game consoles.

According to Argonaut, the remaster will feature improved controls, better HD graphics, and a "extensive and meticulously curated digital museum" called Crocipedia, where users can watch interviews with members of the game's development team, view game design documents that provide a behind-the-scenes look at the process, and animation tests.

I'm very satisifed that they just increased the poly count and texture sizes, alongside with fluid framerate and better controls. It's simple but it's enough and I'd rather have it over some unity/unreal looking remake that wrecks the game's original artstyle.

It looks fine, but a new lighting engine would've been appreciated.
Nintendo is a good example of how to do remakes right, they always keep them authentic to the original art style despite major upgrades.
I don't think the lack of major changes here is to stay faithful to the original, I think they just don't have enough faith in the IP and they're working with a minimal budget. Which is fair, it was never as big as Spyro or Crash and the new generation of gamers have probably never even heard of it. I can't be positive that the remake will be successful. It was a good game, but it wasn't groundbreaking in any way.

Ha, this takes me back. I got the PC version back in the day for about $10 USD. The music didn't play, but I still enjoyed the game. The intro was a separate option on the main menu, and I remember watching it multiple times.

Overall, Croc's a fun, simple platformer. I remember the game having tank controls, so I'm guessing the "improved controls" will be more Super Mario 64-esque.

I never gave the sequel a chance, so here's hoping this sells well enough to get the sequel remastered.

"Ka-boof!"

"Ker-splat!"
