creative zen stone bricked?

anyone out there who owns a creative zen stone and magically turned to a brick?

i need help! their customer support is sending me email that exactly is the same in their support website, and this is driving me nuts!

my firmware reads 0.00.00, and the player is recognized as STMP3500 player recovery device.

i knew i should've gotten a shuffle.

Creative is normally pretty good on replacing your stuff. Have you had it for so long you don't have any guarantee anymore?

When it shows up on the computer as blahblah recovery device, that means that it knows it doesn't have a working firmware, so it is entering a mode where the firmware can be flashed via usb. I'm sure theres a tool from creative to accompany this feature.

There is a reset button on zen stone, have you tried it ? It reformats firmware from a backup in memory (I think), there should be a little hole, you must put something small in that hole, so player should reset and write firmware from backup (if that doesnt work, it is bricked ?).

Wow what a mess; I've had a quick look around the Creative forums and there's a few people with solutions. It looks like it's fixable but they involve an awful lot of messing around to get it working:
