Hi,

I just used disc2app then WUP Installer GX2 to rip all my games and install them on a USB HDD. I've now found that when booting games off USB, it can't use the save data or update data stored on the internal storage, and when you use the Wii U system settings to transfer the save data and update, it wipes out everything on the USB for that game, namely the game itself...

I already need to reinstall 1 game to the USB, is there any way to copy the save and update data to the USB without it deleting the game, resulting in me needing to reinstall quite a few games?

Thanks.

For game updates - WUP install them same way as you did your games.
For saves you can use saviine or try ftp anywhere.

Ah OK, so my 2 options are:
Use the Wii U system settings to copy the save data and update, deleting the game in the process, then reinstall that with WUP Installer
OR
Extract the save using saviine, inject that to USB, then download the game updates with Wii U USB Helper and install with WUP Installer?

Seems like the first option is actually the easiest option there! Wish I had realised you couldn't copy just save data to USB without it wiping everything else. Ah well.

Cheers!

Yes, sounds about right. I think it might be in a sticky somewhere, but I have read so many threads on this forum I can't remember. Its a known issue.

+ you forget then you have to re-inject with savvine again. Not bad if its one or two games only else can be a bit of a ball ache. You can use FTP but apparently not all saves copy well.

If I were you I'd bite the bullet and go for first option :)

I'm dealing with this exact issue. So - do you have to install the game using WUP installer, move the saves and updates, then install the game using WUP installer again??? OR Can you just move the saves and updates to the USB first, then install the game with WUP installer?

I guess what my question boils down to is do you have to install the game with WUP installer twice if you already have save data for that game?

Use WUP installer to install both the game and the update files, I think WUP installer GX 2 allows you to install multiple titles at once if my memory is correct. Then use saviine to inject the save to your desired game.
There is also SaveMii if you don't want to use saviine.

Update on what's working for me. Note that I used SAVEMII to back up my saves, but haven't had to use it yet to restore any saves. Here's my workflow:

1. Before using disc2app, head into Data Management --> Internal Storage. Find the WiiU game are going to rip using disc2app and Move all of it to your External USB Hard Drive. By "all of it" I mean that when you choose the game it may contain just a save, or may also contain a game update and/or DLC, too. It doesn't really matter, though - just choose the game and Move it.
2. Boot into CFW and run disc2app. Go through all the steps to rip the WiiU game to your SD card.
3. Boot into CFW and run WUP Installer GX. You should see the newly ripped folder. Install it to the External USB Hard Drive.
4. Done.
5. When you start up the game via your new channel on the WiiU menu, your saves will be there. I've completed this process 4 or 5 times and it's worked perfectly.

Anyone else do it this way?

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol

I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)

So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb

but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that

least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling

They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great

so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol

They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
