Had this conversation with a mate the other night :

Him : Can the PSP play films?
Me : Yep, you can buy them on UMD or you can hack it to play DivX.
H : How do you hack it?
M :
H : What's a UMD then?
M : It's like a DVD for the PSP.
H : But the PSP does't play DVDs.
M : No I know, it's not a DVD it's a UMD.
H : So how does it play them.
M : You put it in the PSP and you press play.
H : But where do you put it?
M : You put it in the part where games go.
H : But that's not big enough to put a DVD in.
M : No I know. It's not a DVD it's a UMD. It's like a DVD for the PSP that's the same size as a game disc.
H : So you plug the UMD player into the PSP?
M : No, the PSP is the UMD player.
H : But it doesn't play films.
M : Yes, it plays UMDs.
H : But it's only got one place to put discs and that's for games.
M : No, it's for movies and games.
H : But how do you get it to play the movies.
M : You put the disc in and press play.
H : But it doesn't play films.
M : Yes it does, it plays UMDs.
H : But where do you put the UMD player?
M : The PSP is the god-damned UMD player.
H : Where do you get UMDs from?
M : Places that sell PSP games.
H : But if they're games then they're not films.
M : No, but you can buy films on disc for the PSP and the places that sell games probably sell discs too.
H : But you can't fit a DVD into the PSP.
M : Not DVD discs, UMD discs.
H : But where do you put the player?
M : The PSP is the god-damned player, it has a built in movie player for UMD discs.
H : So does that mean I can put divx files on a UMD and play them?
M : No, because you can't buy a UMD burner.
H : So how do you put the films on a disc.
M : You don't, you buy them from a shop with the movie already on them.
H : So you can pick what films you want on it?
M : No, it's like buying a DVD only made for the PSP.
H : But there's no way to fit a DVD in the PSP.

And the conversation went on like that for about another 15 minutes until I lost my rag! It honestly made me feel like I was stuck in a deleted scene from Idiocracy!

That's why I reckon that people should have to pass a test to be able to own a PC, or at least one hooked up to the net anyway. I'm not the most knowledgable of people when it comes to PCs but I'm like a fucking Einstein compared to the average computer user these days! I blame Sony for making gaming mainstream and M$ for catering to the ignorant. Their motto really should have been "Know nothing about computers? Well neither do we! So use our operating system, it's for the stupid from the stupid"! They made it so anyone can set up a PC more or less. Now the average bloke thinks he's a fucking systems engineer just cos he install Windows!

He did get a slap by the end of the conversation. He's been ordered never to bring up anything console/computing related again unless he wants to feel alot of pain! He's not generally that dumb, a little stupid but not outright lead-paint eating dumb. For some reason he had it stuck in his head that the only films that come on disc are DVDs. It is a good sign of the fact that people are getting dumber by the day though. At this rate we'll have shows like "Americas Smartest Criminals" and shows You've Been Framed will feature people doing stuff correctly, the stupid don't really like to laugh at the stupid.

lol While it'd be nice to think that I'm normally this patient I'd be lying if I said I was. If it wasn't for the fact that he was a mate he would've been having a PSP and UMD surgically removed from his rectum if wasn't.

But when it's a mate you've gotta make some allowances!
