Confirmed Nintendo Switch is using stock Nvidia Tegra X1, no modifications.

All is confirmed the Nintendo Switch is powered by stock Nvidia Tegra X1, same chipset used in Shield TV. The most surprising is the retention of 4 Cortex A53 processor cores, which have no use in the Nintendo switch as they can't be operated at the same time when Cortex A57 cores are running due to the ARM big.little configuration setup.

After subsequent processing of the GPU from the Nintendo Switch, we have determined that the processor is the Nvidia Tegra T210. The T210 CPU features 4 Cortex A57 and 4 Cortex A53 processor cores and the GPU is a GM20B Maxell core.

http://techinsights.com/about-techinsights/overview/blog/nintendo-switch-teardown/

Nvidia Tegra X1 features
  • 8 core CPU (4 x Cortex A57 and 4 x Cortex A53)
  • GPU is a GM20B Maxell core

A comparison to Shield TV. Switch specs on the left, and Shield TV on the right. The clock speeds are reported from Eurogamer, which are very much true.

  • RAM: 4GB vs 3GB
  • CPU: 1Ghz vs. 2Ghz
  • GPU: 3 modes:307.2Mhz/384Mhz/768Mhz vs 1Ghz

Shield TV is clocked higher initially in both CPU and GPU, but don't forget Shield TV can't keep these clock speeds up for long, it throttles down to the exact switch's dock clockspeeds. Which further supports a stock X1.

Techinsights is a business, so any false doing is likely to hamper their trust with the work they do and damage their reputation. Unless you have your own business and you have an interest in competitors products, I doubt you have any interest or come across them.
I have my own business alright, 40 years of history and turns over mega money! I use sites like RiskDisk to find out dodgy companies like those and put them to bed so I don't invest in them.

Okay...lets stay on topic, you have doubts that's okay. I am not a business expert, but...

This is real as it gets, by all means find me another source out there that has manage to disproof this information, that they have conducted their own tests and have claimed it isn't powered by Tegra X1 or is different to it.

What? K1 does 365 GFlops, and that's a theoretical maximum, not real performance. X1 is 500 GFlops. Granted, you only get that with a constant power supply (docked), but still.
Oops typo, approx 50% more "powerful" (not 50% of a K1), but I think you understood. X1 chip is underclocked in the Switch (docked).

What does the switch using a Tegra X1 Chip mean for those like me who dont now much about NVida?

Is it good or bad for future games development?
is it good or bad for porting wii u games?
is it good or bad for things like GC/WII & Wii U emulation in the far future?

For what it is? It opens a door for powerful handheld gaming. On the flip side, it makes for a lackluster home console experience.

It's good for future development as its a strong chip that supports a fair bit of engines
I'm excited to see what the Unreal Engine will run like on future switch titles.

Porting may be hard, depending on the game and engine used.. But it's a fair bit more powerful than the WiiU, so games would overall perform better.

WiiU emulation won't be happening without some work. Wii/GC VC/Emulation is actually highly possible with this chip. Won't be perfect though.

This has been discussed multiple times on this site. In short, SoC is too weak to properly emulate GC.
well anything is possible.. nintendo said the o3ds couldn't run snes but, we can run it full speed so who knows what would happen when its been hacked...

I've just arranged a return for my Switch as the battery only lasts one hour now from 100% down to sleep mode battery drain. It used to last 2.5-3hrs.
why return it for the battery?? its power hungry sure... but, just grab a powerbank and wait for a switch case that doubles as a battery bank... the o3ds was bad with hours when on full brightness and playing 3ds games but, battery packs were made for it which boosted my o3ds to 12 hours on a single charge... because we can't get to the battery on the switch because its full on internal, some company has to make a battery bank case for the switch... :switch:

Well because I thought it was defective. It does last 3hrs but stays on 1% for the last 2hrs of play time. It's happened to a few people on ninty support forum. The system isn't reading the battery properly.

Yes it can, but only via speed hacks at the cost of accuracy. Commercially sold emulated games need to be accurate more than anything. This is achieved via software renderer but that needs too much power for the O3DS to handle.

If it dies that quickly so soon, it needs to be RMA'D or returned.

Here's a comparison between OpenGL vs Vulkan on the Shield TV using dolphin, this leads me to believe that the switch is more than capable of runing a gamecube emulator made by nintendo, even more considering the fact that the switch isn't being held back by android like the Shield TV.

Also, the internal res that is in the video on dolphin is 1920x1584, I believe that toning it down to 1080p (1920x1080) or 720p (1280 x 720) will cause greater perfomance.

What a POS! I was just playing TP HD to enable 20 hearts wolf link amiibo in BOTW, and it ran and looked amazing on my Wii U!

I don't know if you're trolling or not, but Twilight Princess HD is a remaster for the Wii U, it isn't the original GC-Wii Version being emulated, that's why it looks better.
