good I don't have the energy to argue with you on the basics of English grammar.

so lets argue on closed source vs open source now, thats always fun.

Sorry if I type like shit when I have to correct people..

I had a little respect for you but name calling is a new low, guess some people can't argue with logic gotta resort to cheap insults. Sad dude, really sad.

Anyway, I think you should give ubuntu a try, at least see what linux has to offer before making your mind up. Don't judge a book by its cover.

I corrected it. I realized I took it too far back there. My mistake.

so ubuntu is useful for... what?

Nothing, it's an option. If you're happy with Windows stay with Windows. There's no point to moving to a new OS for no reason :S Except maybe if you want some Eye-candy with beryl but thats available with any Linux distro.
I know that Ubuntu isn't what the OP is looking for, but it's unfair to say it's useful for "nothing".

Unless of course, you honestly do think that there is no conceivable use for an open source operating system or a friendly dev environment.

Here's my rant on this subject.

To me Linux is about more than a stable/reliable OS, its about freedom. Freedom to do whatever the fuck I want, I'm sure most of you will agree that freedom is a valuable thing worth fighting for.

Why side with a corporation and not side with a community of ordinary people building something larger than themselves for the benefit of our society? I don't understand this mentality of defending an organization that strips you of your basic freedoms, an organization that takes your money and then dictates how you may use a product you paid for. Many people hate DRM but what's the difference between DRM and a Windows EULA?

I don't mind Windows/Mac users but people who go around bashing OSS because they use proprietary operating systems sicken me, criticize all you want though(thats the only way things will improve).

\endrant{}

Ubuntu is useful if you want stability and no viruses.

Basically Mac OS X without the drivers but with some bells and whistles ie beryl?

Joking really. Ubuntu is good for those things like all linux distros but to me it's overrated. Everybody is always saying '' Ohh Ubuntu is so easy like zomgz '' It wasn't to me. Which is why I prefer PCLinuxOS to it.

Ubuntu sucks. You should only use it if you have half a brain and don't know how to use Windows. I had it on my system for about a week, it was HORRIBLE. You have to use the terminal to practically run anything.

Get XP and Vista - or buy a Mac and use Bootcamp.

Ubuntu doesn't suck it's just difficult. And I see contradictions in your message. If it's for half a brain people that don't know how to use windows, they wouldn't know to use the terminal either :S And technically you could install applications from the Software Manager... I think that's what it's called.

There isnt much advantage over opensource other then its free and u can look at the code

its all the same other wise, still a selective group makes it and controls it with public releases, still dont really care about ur bug reports unless its critical, blah blah
with small projects OpenSource is great, but large projects it becomes iffy
