Phil Harrison of SCEA said:
GamePro sat down with Sony Computer Entertainment executive Phil Harrison at E3 earlier this week, where he re-iterated a sentiment made by Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Interactive Entertainment Peter Moore, where he said that buyers of of a next-generation console should also buy Nintendo's Wii system.

"I think Peter Moore is exactly right," Harrison said. "I think Nintendo will be the second system consumers purchase after PlayStation 3. I haven't had a chance to check out the Wii myself, but Nintendo has a great history of innovation and has always done great things for gaming and long may they do so."

Peter Moore of MicrosoftYou read it right. Peter Moore, a vice president for Microsoft, asked in a recent interview, "Tell me why you would buy a $600 PS3?" He went on to explain, "People are going to buy two [machines]. They're going to buy an Xbox and they're going to buy a Wii ... for the price of one PS3."
Source

Now, I don't know if anybody realises, but if both are these companies are saying "Buy our console and a Wii"..umm...doesn't the Wii win in terms of sales? I mean, if everyone has a Wii, and then a 360 or PS3, it would mean Wii is in every household.

I know Nintendo isn't in competition, but it's these kind of statements that could in turn push Nintendo to the top. I'd like to know exacty what both gaming giants are doing pushing their non-immediate competition. If everybody buys the Wii and does enjoy it, do you really think your "If we destroy one, we can take down Nintendo ourselves" strategy will work? Hahaha...

Just something I'd share with you all

Wouldn't that be a bit stupid for their sales? It's like they want to help nintendo.... Never mind that, Nintendo FTW!

well, peter moore just pwned sony, they dont really have anything else to say without looking like idiots. they know the wii is going to be popular and its best that they look like they were supporting it from the start. just like nintendo have planned theyve already broken away from microsoft and sony leaving them with the sloppy seconds

Everyone i personally know thats even slightly interested in gaming will be buying a Wii, goes without saying that the machine will conquor Japan. But this time round it could even go as far as to conquer the USA and Europe. It'd be nice to see Nintendo back on top in all teritories

I wont be buying a 360 because i don't like 1st person shooters an western designed 3d games in general, thats all the console seems to have. However if 360 gets hacked properly in the future so we can run emus, xbmc, and 360 games from a hdd with a softmod, then ill get one like i did my standard xbox. I hope one day to see a better mame and a good Saturn emulator on 360

Ps3 is far to expensive for me, even if i did want one i couldn't bring myself to part with that kind of cash on a console. I worked for the Sony repair center in the uk for 7 years and i wont be the 1st to tell you that their console hardware sucks major ass. Sonys ps2 lasers were cheap shit, specially on the 1st model ps2. Infact they were so concerned about money they had Sanyo make god knows how many thousands of even cheaper lasers, so they could cut costs even more in order to justify for their losses.

It'll prolly be exactly the same with ps3 hardware. Maybe ill buy one in 5 years time when they've hopefully gone bust

They realise Nintendo is competing on a different platform and offers something different. There's lots of reasons to buy a Wii if you have a 360/PS3, but far less reasons to buy one of the more "conventional" consoles when you already have one, especially at the price they're selling it at. Basically they think everyone's going to get a Wii anyway so the argument has changed to "Buy our machine with your Wii", "No, buy our machine with your Wii."

I don't know how many people exactly own more than one home console.
So I don't really understand this marketing strategy. I'm going to get one Wii, then if the price is right, I'll buy one as a gift so I can hook someone into gaming. Maybe my mom.
