In the Mass Effect series, the characters rely upon a technology called "Medi-Gel". When they take too much damage, their armor can apply it to the wounds, fixing them up in seconds and getting them back on the battlefield.

Of course, that's just science fiction technology that we could never poss-

(The original link contains a video demonstration of this Medi-Gel in action - and for you squeamish types, don't worry, they just use a piece of raw pork loin.)

Well, shit. I have to admit, I'm torn - I love that this is actually a thing, but I just hate being corrected. Woe is me.

I also kind of resent the inventor. Oh sure, he may possibly be revolutionizing medical science, but way to make the rest of us college students look like bums. How the hell are we supposed to compete here? Seriously, what a douche.

Even if this Medi-Gels with the patent system, it'll still take several more years of FDA testing and development before it can be declared absolutely safe and worthwhile. Landolina is also looking for a grant from the Department of Defense - if they buy into this as he hopes, it might take a little bit longer before it hits the consumer market.

At this rate, it looks like the future of Mass Effect is arriving faster than anyone could have predicted. Now if only Curiosity could get off its ass and find those damn Prothean ruins already...

You do remember that the Mass Effect future also features
    1. The near extinction of the human race
    2. Giant Tentacle Robots.
    3. An evil star-child.

Prothean ruins, not necessarily a good idea.

But hell, this gel stuff is amazing. It looks like it plugs up the damn wound.

Well this could also mean the Halo version of the future.
    Which would bring:
    • Slipspace travel
    • An anti-UN rebellion
    • A multispecies alien invasion
    • Another invasion by a prehistoric being of almost limitless power

Pff, Medi-Gel? Get on with the times - use Bacta. Not only you can smear it, you can also apply patches of it, put it in grenades, swim in it, hell, you can drink it.

Gotta love me some Bactade every now and then.

Wow, that's actually impressive. The video doesn't really say much though as it was tested on a dead animal and it might've ran out of blood at the same time they applied the gel.
Still, it's rather impressive that the first one to invent this was a college student.

Do you see the tube running into the slab of meat? See how it pumps the blood into the meat, presumably into a major blood vessel in the meat.

3D printing is a fairly new tech (circa 1986) and we're seeing printers becoming available to the average Joe with prices dropping from for example $20k to $1k. Why not Medi-Gel? :P

The thought of a huge, veiny, throbbing piece of meat makes you uncomfortable? :creep: I'll admit watching another guy handling his piece of pork is not everyone's cup of tea, but you should give it a look still.

    ...
it was flesh, but the blood was live and being fed into it via the tube that's quite visible... The medi-gel triggers actions in the blood cells, not the flesh. The video shows it working as advertised.

Oh, was that what it was? I couldn't see clearly, I'm on an old netbook ATM with a 7" screen, and I was using 360p quality :P

As I said above, I'm on a shitty netbook, so I couldn't see clearly what it was.

But the real question: is there a sing-along mode?
