hey

so my brother tasked me with the mission of finding a decent laptop. hes only willing to spend 800$ tops. he wants it to be good with office apps (word, excel, etc) and decent amount of RAM. this is NOT a gaming laptop so tune down your normal spec finding eyeball to super lowww...

I came asking you guys because I'm only aware of Newegg as a laptop reseller. their selection aint so great for what I'm hunting.

thnx in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

these are what I found: any good?
Sony VAIO NR VGN-NR485E
TOSHIBA Tecra A9-S9012X

Seconded. I bought a MacBook, only to realize later that I could've used old free laptops that businesses were throwing away...

If he is just going to use it for surfing the net and doing Word documents, maybe he should consider getting an ASUS EEE PC. They are small and light, so they are easy to bring to class. They might not have large SSDs, but its enough for what he would be doing.

the 2Gs and 4Gs come with 512MB of RAM
the 8Gs, 900s, and up come with 1GB of RAM
If he needed to, he could easily upgrade the RAM

just go onto newegg and search for EEE PC, prices range from $300 to $600

EDIT:
Also, most come with linux, but they work fine with XP, as the EEE comes with a disc that has XP drivers for its hardware

The Eee PC is pretty useless when you can buy a full desktop for $500 or less

The Toshiba is a better deal.
You can't bring a desktop to class...

Anyway, eeepc 900 dropped too 400$ recently, the windows version is 449$

BUT!

I have one, wouldn't recommend it for college.

Anyway, if he doesn't want vista, here is an XP top

Toshiba satellite models are small and relatively light.
It's by no means a gaming laptop either (onboard GPU)

Not sure about the price, older models are cheaper obviously. Last time I checked they were affordable for its performance.
