N00b question: If we keep gaining coins after being Platinum,does the exceed advance us to the Gold/Platinum account for the next Club Nintendo year or these will be lost?

You keep the coins for two years but, no, they do not rollover, so to speak, so you're starting from zero at the beginning of July on your march back to Platinum.
