I don't understand why everything, but grocery store are closed on Christmas? Christianity is not the only religion in America. I follow Magism, but used to be Wiccan - love celebrating a lot of things.

It's an excuse for a day off. Any religion or non-religion can understand that.

btw - drug stores like Walgreens should be open

Yeah, this is what doesn't make sense. Why should Hanukkah or Kwanza be an excuse for stores to close?

Some countries even grocery stores are closed. Even they deserve a day off. Too bad emergency service workers can´t just take the day off as well.

Oh god. Magism and Wiccan? And you're trying to belittle people who take a national holiday to be with family? There are plenty of national holidays where businesses and schools close. Whether you believe in something or not, it's ignorant and moronic to view Christmas as a holiday only for Christians.

Source: I'm an Atheist which celebrates Christmas and appreciates being off of work to be with my family.

Your right. Your thinking is more inline with my own. In America its just counter-intuitive and stupid.

Your post is counter-intuitive and stupid, but we allow it here right? Same concept.

Yeah, I'm not belittling anyone, but just trying to make sense of the reasoning. Everything needs to be re-thought out with certain systems in America.

Nothing needs to be thought out again. It's Christmas. Shit's closed on Christmas, quit complaining. Need to go somewhere? Go tomorrow. Just enjoy the holiday ffs.

You're free to start your own business and close any time you want.

I'm sure everyone that has a job is happy to have the time off, religious or not religious.
Sucks for people who still have to work though.

I'm not Christian either but if there's a day where I'm not expected to work and eating/drinking to excess is practically encouraged then I for one am not going to argue.

Best response and now it makes a little more sense. If the business are free to close or not close at their own discretion, then it does make a lot more sense. This is something I hadn't considered.

Well that's great because if you have so many frying pans, you can use them all as drying pans!
