Classic PC game "System Shock 2" to get enhanced edition

LlYlpRm.png

System Shock, a franchise that's on the cusp of its 25th anniversary, is currently undergoing a revival period. First, Nightdive Studios announced that it would be remaking the original System Shock game, which released in 1994 for DOS. Then, we saw a reveal for System Shock 3, now in development by OtherSide Entertainment. That's not all for the series, though, as System Shock 2 will get its own time in the spotlight, in order to celebrate 20 years since its original release. Nightdive Studios will be releasing System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition, and it'll be "coming soon". There's not any information as to what the enhanced edition featurelist will be, though it can be assumed that it'll likely entail better graphics, bugfixes, and other minor additions, which is a welcome sight for a retro game that helped have an impact on the gaming world through the likes of Deus Ex and Bioshock.

Are these any good, coming from someone who loved the original DeusEx to almost death (I have Mankind Divided and Human Revolution in my steam library)?

Terrific game. Enjoyed the shit out of it. Until the spiders....that's when I quit...and an enhanced edition probably isn't gonna help with that, but hey, time to man up.

Awesome. Now, if they'd do the same for Thief on its 25th anniversary...

There are some considerable unofficial works here that might do well for the meantime

and of course the standalone "remake" (these days its own game) with hundreds of missions.

Not sure what goes for remake missions these days as the official forums are, understandably, pretty cagey about such things.

I guess it's a good time to be in the 'never played a System Shock game' camp, as I am. Will be interesting to see which turns out better: the full remake of SS1, or the enhanced version of SS2.

i'm still waiting for the system shock remake but ok

Same, and arguably SS2 is still pretty okay by modern standards. I'm not sure what's with the need for a remake here...I mean, it works in 21:9 ffs. That's more than can be said for most games this old.

Ugh, you know what I would love to see remade? Game developing companies with original ideas.

Its fine for future generations to see what we played in the past, but they can just get the old version.
