Hacking cIOS Troubles. USB hard drive not mounting and Apps not loading

I have been trying for almost a month to get Loader GX, WiiMC, and my console emulators to run alright. I have looked all over the forums for a fix for my problems and haven't found one yet. My problem is when I start up Loader GX or WiiMC or my snes and nes emulators, many times it goes to the load screen and then it just sends me right back to the system menu. And when I do start WiiMC or the emulators, my USB is not always detected.

I noticed also that when I start certain apps like the HBC or an emulator and go back to the system menu, my hard drive light is not lit up. It doesnt light up whenever I fail to enter any other applications and get sent back to the system menu either.

Could this be some sort of cIOS troubles. I have installed a lot of extra cIOS files that have been said to fix different things but it really doesnt get any better.

I ran a syscheck if someone would please give me a hand with it I would be very much appreciated.

there are two different things:

- USB Loaders rely on cIOS : Your current setup is wrong

USBLoaders require a cIOS with a base IOS 56 or 57.
Your current base is 80, which is not the best. it might work, but based on your report I suppose it doesn't work for you.

Solution for USBloader: (pick one only, do not follow all 3)
1. Re-hack your Wii with modmii tutorial
2. use Modmii to generate only these two wad files : cIOS d2x v8 slot249 with base 56, and cIOS d2x v8 slot250 with base 57, then use a wad manager to install the generated wads.
3. Use d2x installer to install cIOS d2x v8 in slot249 with base 56, and cIOS d2x v8 in slot250 with base 57

- WiiMC and emulators rely on official IOS 58 : Your current setup is good
WiiMC and the emulators which are running on IOS58 should work fine. If they don't, it could be a problem from your drive, not your Console's setup.
Usually, HDD which are not compatible with the cIOS are working fine with IOS58, it's strange that even the IOS58 doesn't detect your drive.


Emulators and loaders shouldn't reset the console if the drive is not detected, but instead it should display a message/warning.
Emulators can even run from SD, and doesn't require USB drive at all, so they should run fine.

Did you try launching them without the HDD connected?

Thank you so much for the help. I have reinstalled the 2 cIOS d2x v8 files that you mentioned. This is how I originally had it, and I think it does run better this way.

But I am still having problems with the USB drive being detected every time when opening. Usually the USB Loader GX boots up the first time (I had latest 3.0 release and now I have updated to the beta with the same problems), but if I run any channel or HBC or an emulator and exit back to the system menu and try to run Loader GX again, it will go to loading screen but not initialize or load anything from hard drive, then restart back to the system menu again (the whole time the hard drive does not light up).

It does this with any program I try to run after exiting from another program usually. Sometimes the first time. It starts to load it for a few seconds, and then reloads the system menu again.

It does not reset the console however. Sorry I wasn't totally clear on that, I just mean it starts to load the program and I get a loading screen for that program, then it resets back to the system menu. After I try it a few times, it runs again and detects hard drive. Usually the first time it runs fine though.

I am thinking it isn't recognizing the hard drive when it exits back to the system menu or when I run a program then try to run another after it, because when I run either the NES or SNES GX emulator after previously running something else, it sometimes goes to the loading screen for a few seconds and then stops and goes back to the system menu, but SOMETIMES it also loads the emulator but tries to locate the hard drive and cannot. The roms dont show up, the settings don't show up, and if I click USB storage to search for roms, it doesn't locate anything. Also when I load up HBC my hard drive doesnt show up a lot of the time. (If I unplug it and plug it back in it always shows up in any program)

Could this have something to do with the IOS being used to load one program not being able to switch over to use a different IOS required for another program??

Any ideas on what might be causing this? I have searched page after page in tutorials, troubleshooting, and every forum and web search terms I can think of but have not seen a problem like mine. Quite a few similar but it doesn't seem to be happening quite the same to anyone else running from their USB drive. (Everything runs fine from SD Card, but here and there the hard drive doesn't mount and isn't accessible from apps until I unplug it and plug it back in). Is there anything anyone has heard of that would cause a mounting or initilizing problem with the hard drive like this?

I had the same problem, use modmii to build v9Beta (with base 56 and 57 install these instead of v8Final- this one has a fix for problem drives. Mine works every time now.

Thanks for the help, but I just installed those 2 v9 beta (r49) files and it would start Loader GX and load data and cIOS data but when the loading sequence got to Initilizing hd, it switch to waiting for hard drive.... and gave me a 15 sec countdown and wouldnt detect it at all, it would load up with just my channels on wii and nothing on my hard drive. I tried loading it with HBC also and it did the same thing and timed out.

I even tried unplugging the hard drive once I was in Loader GX and then plug it back in and it would read it, but whenever I went in the Hard Drive options to change the settings back, I would get stuck in that menu and not be able to click exit the Hard Drive Settings. I also would get stuck on the main screen sometimes and not be able to click any more buttons....

So not sure what is up with that. I had tried updating cIOS to v9 (r49) beta before and it did the exact same thing as its doing now. I had to go back to v8. I have tried it with Loader GX version latest version and have tried it with 2 of the latest beta versions and I got the same results. Thanks for help, but it's back to v8 for me.

I think I have read some other posts from people that seem to have had this same problem once they updated cIOS to v9 beta. So least I am not alone in this one.

Personally I use the "Hack any Wii" guide in the wiihacks.com forum. It will also give you a solid idea of how to mod your wii as it's mostly manual which is good. I find using Acronis to format your usb drive as fat32 works very very well, especially with WiiMC compatibility. WinMod is a good program to load all your needed wads. When you load up d2x-version 8-final , I would just load all the wads instead of custom installing the with specific slots and cios versions. Its more "bullet proof" if you just load the wads and be done with it, they only take 1 minute to load them all and takes all the guess out of loading the wrong slot with the wrong cios.

You don't need to re-softmod your Wii. You have a good setup.
There are really only 2 things needed : official IOS58 for HBC and most homebrew, and D2x cIOS (base56/57) for loaders.

About loaders:
If your drive has problem for being detected after exiting any homebrew, it can be your drive itself.
Try other loaders (USBLoaderGX seems to have this problem when others don't, ConfigLoader or Wiiflow should work)

About other homebrew/emulators:
Verify that your HBC is using IOS58 (press Home button in HBC and look at the top right which IOS is used).
Reinstall HBC with hackmii installer if HBC is not using IOS58.
It's not normal that emulators can't mount yor drive if you have IOS58 and HBC on 58.
This is then a problem with your drive.
Try a different device, or even a different/shorter USB cable if you have one, sometime it helps too.

I have the same problem when I connect a HDD. I tried the USB Loader, the wiiflow, etc but I cannot see my disk. The disk is appeared normally in another wii.
