Hacking Cheats for the EZ 3-in-1?

I wanted to use action replay codes on the EZ 3-in-1 for GBA games, but I don't know how, I know about a program called gabsharky but I heard it has a virus and I'm not sure how to use it

gabsharky is old, you want cracker's GBAATM. Alternatively, the EZ-Flash V SLOT-1 card has cheat support for the 3-in-1.

I know this is a noob question, but how do I use that application? I tried putting in action replay codes, then gameshark codes but it only gave me a black screen when I booted up the game
